Thailand Ranks Rather Poorly On Economist Best/worst Countries To Be Born In Study

Featured Replies

In the US in 2010, "someone died in a house fire every 169 minutes." (You'd think that dumb bastard would learn after a while, wunnt ya?) smile.png

In addition to the 2,600+ killed, another 13,000+ were injured. With 384,000 home fires in one year alone and almost 20,000 killed or injured,

I don't dare stay home. smile.png

As RabC would say "do you have the statistics to back this up?"

Uh, I posted a link where I got that. It's the CDC - a US Agency.

"The best countries to be born in are small, peaceful, homogenous, liberal democracies."

Those of us who aren't liberals might not agree. This is the most slanted survey of the day.

Not sure if you're serious but the study is about “which country will provide the best opportunities for a healthy, safe and prosperous life in the years ahead,” not petty partisan politics and labels.

You have to define and prioritize your "opportunities." Do I want the "opportunity" to live in a nanny state? No. Do I want the "opportunity" to work my butt off and pick up the tab for slackers? No. Do I want the "opportunity" to get the chit taxed out of me? No. Do I want the "opportunity" to have costs in the form of excessive import duties and VATs added to everything I buy? No Do I want the "opportunity" to pay half of all I earn in taxes of one form or the other? No.

Do I want the "opportunity" to keep what I earn, and the "opportunity" to do more of what I want to do without being told by "the group?" Yes. Do I want small government that leaves me the hell alone as long as I'm not infringing on someone else's life? Yes.

Tax all he has

Then let him know

That you won’t be done

Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers;

Then tax him some more,

Tax him till

He’s good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,

Tax his grave,

Tax the sod in

Which he’s laid.

Are we missing any here?

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the

most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What in the hell happened? Can you spell ‘politicians?’"

- Unkown.

I hope RabC reads this as it sums up the UK.

I would put the Pollies last to blame, the first ones to blame are the greedy UNIONS. They talk everyone in to a bigger wage they say to cover the rising cost of living. Then because they get their way and get higher wages, the company has to downsize or close or outsource to other countries like Thailand and really anywhere in South East Asia, as they work for next to nothing and are happy to get the work. Best of all NO UNIONS just negotiations with your employer or a National wage rise by the Government, IE BT300 Thailand. And what happened to all those Union bosses that demanded a wage rise, they are still working and all the other workers are now on the dole or finding it hard to get work without a degree of some sort. <deleted> the Unions.

Where to be born in 2013

A QUARTER of a century ago, The World in 1988 light-heartedly ranked 50 countries according to where would be the best place to be born. Then, America came top (see chart on left). Now the Economist Intelligence Unit has more earnestly calculated where would be best to be born in 2013.

It really puzzles me WHY this article (a daily chart as The Economist calls it), titled Birth Right, is posted again by The Economist, now from January 1, 2013, whilst the same content and link was mentioned already earlier in post #16 with an original date of November 21st 2012, but with a slightly different title:

The lottery of life

I don't think it was really intended as news; I think it was intended as a bit of light relief for the New Year. It probably appealed more to people with a sense of humour.

SC

this is the reason i raise my children in Australia.

At least they will be brought up in a multicultural society.

well they are half thai. their school is very diverse, kids from everywhere.

If this is news to anyone I have some more news for you ........ Cancer ranks rather poorly on best\worst health problems to have. A 1970 pinto ranks rather poorly on the best\worst cars to own. Alaska ranks rather poorly on the best\worst becahfront property. Rattlesnakes rank rather poorly on best\worst snakes to bite you. Lesbians rank rather poorly on best\worst people to most likely to date a hetrosexual man. and so on ......

Do you have data to back up these claims? Although not popular due to its remoteness, I am sure some people would find Alaska even more attractive than the Western Isles, but without proper survey data, all we have is prejudice. For example, how to rattle snake bites compare with cobra bites?

SC

I said I had some more news for you, not that you would be smart enough to believe it. I used rattlesnakes on purpose because the topic was about "rather poorly" not on the worst possible. But if you want to believe that rattlesnakes don't rank rather poorly on the list be my guest.

More to the point I have a feeling that the orignal report in the economist was using data pre - 2008, since it take sa long time for the data to come from govenrment agencies to being published, and I have a feeling also that iceland was number 1, just as long as you don't mind the cold
