Well it's just that I was commenting last week about how the motorists never give much room to the cyclists over here and about how dangerous it was,and then she comes home with a bike ?

Posted

I tried renting a bicycle when I first got here. I thought it was more dangerous than a motorscooter.

I agree, as you don't have the power or speed to get out of the way. Plus who would want to bike in the heath, im all for exercise but sweating to the extreme is a bit over the top.

I have only been cycling in Thailand for about 4 years, in cities and in the boonies and the biggest threat are the dogs, especially in the country. I have found that apart from the odd idiot suddenly deciding to park stop driving in the middle of the road, most cars and trucks for the most part leave enough room. Cars, vans and trucks suddenly stopping isn't a hazard unique to cyclists! Motorcycle drivers tend to be total eedjits though and will cut you up quicker than any big vehicle will.

Once you are peddling along, with the right togs, any sweat evaporates real quick. I mean, don't you break a sweat in the gym?

Buy your lady a bike and tell her she's going with you. I'd love to see the look on her face.

"no teerak......cannot!"

Better still, get a tandem. I'd love to see that :-)

Of course if you got a tandem, you could always talk about it:

or completely ignore each other.....................wink.png

Please define "gym". I vaguely remember the word from the accursed PE lessons at school.... whistling.gif

I break more then a little sweat in a gym, but then i can have a nice shower afterwards. I see a bike more as a mode of transportation then for exercise. I am Dutch i biked enough in my life, but never for exercise always for transport. That is probably why i dont like it here id be sweating once im on my destination. But if it was pure for exercise it would not be a problem you just end at home and have a shower.

You should really start to worry if she comes home with a duck...

I heard the ducks around here are quite limp.

Sorry OP - I can't help but imagine a nice purple looking number with a basket on front and streamers hanging off the handles.

Have you done the playing card in the spokes secured by a clothes peg modification yet, so that you can pretend you're on a real bike?

I bet she did not buy you a bike helmet.

She probably wants you to give her a ride on the back to and from the market too.

Or side-saddle on the bar.

I was carrying my mate home from school like that when we fourteen or so .... he stuck his heel in the front wheel, the bike somersaulted, he landed on the bitumen breaking his nose and wrist, and I landed safely on top of him. He never asked for a lift again.

This insures that the 5,000 baht hit-man, or your wife's real husband (depends on how cheap she is), actually runs over the right farang. So many Thai hit-men kill the wrong farang, either out of sheer incompetence, or a desire to get paid twice.

I reckon she bought the bike to save herself hiring a hitman. She can save herself a few bob if I do it myself :P
