Epley Treatment For Dizziness

Has anybody in Chiang Mai tried the Epley Manoeuvre to treat dizziness?

Would be interested to find a reliable, experienced doctor or clinic who could perform this.

Thanks for any feedback on this-

You might want to try the Ram and McCormick hospitals they both have ENTs on staff. McCormick would be cheaper. I saw the one at Ram and was not impressed. Sold me some pills and said it was natural in older people and it would go away.

You can make an appointment with in my mind an excellent chiropractor in the hospital opposite the Holiday inn, He is expensive 800 baht but was worth every bit of it to me. Saw him twice and he said that was all he could do for me. Said I could come back for tune ups every so often if I wished. Didn't try to play me along for visits that would not help me.

He is only there on Tuesday and I believe it is Friday afternoons.

Sawasdee Khup, Khun JKO,

Have you been dianosed, formally, via a Dix–Hallpike test, or Nylen–Barany test, and been told that your "dizziness" is caused by BPPV, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, for which the Epley treatment is recommended ?

There can be innumerable other causes of dizziness, such as Ménière's disease, where it most often occurs concomittant with tinnitus.

Without more information, I'm afraid, we're "reading tea-leaves" here, and we're not doctors (!).

May I suggest, that you ask, here, what other's experiences have been with EENT's in Chiang Mai.

My recommendation would be: Dr. Rat, who's a professor at the medical school associated with CMU, and Maharaj Hospital. He also has a private evening clinic on Chotana Road.

You'll not find him listed under "EENT practitioners" in the pinned-thread on this forum on medical resources so kindly maintained by Tywais.

The last phone number I have for Dr. Rat's private clinic is 053-213-003, but that may be out of date. His clinic used to open at 6pm, but his arrival was very often long-delayed by his duties at the hospital, or whatever.

I will try to get Tywais current information on Dr. Rat's private clinic, so he can add him to the list of EENT's, but I am sure you can go see him through Maharaj Hospital: assuming you are an expat, not Thai, you will need to register through the Sriphat Administrative Unit, which is not difficult (bring your passport).

My sincere best wishes for your health in this New Year.

I went to Dr. Rat on Khun orang37's recommendation about 2 years ago and I liked him. He helped me out with a relapse from an old Eustachian tube injury. His fees and cost of medicines at his private clinic were very reasonable.

I did submit his name to be included on the pinned list but that submission was "poo pooed" by someone (I don't know who) and not included on the list. He practiced in America for about 5 years as I recall and spoke excellent English. He has a camera that he inserts int the ear and you can watch what is happening with your ear on the video monitor.

My thanks folks for the recommendations - I will try to see Dr Rat as suggested.

I'm not a chiropractor fan but the referral may be useful to others.

Thanks particularly, to orang37, for the detailed info on Epley. I tested negative for BPPV at Sripath, albeit the dizzy symptoms come immediately try to look at khum loys rising, or attempt to watch a TV monitor above eye height with my head turned sideways.

I'll report further-grateful, meantime.

Well, I know a local Thai guy who had severe back pain for years and was on strong painkillers, doctors wanted to fuse his back at about 200K. For various reasons I decided to sponsor him for a few treatments to the chropractor ar Rajavej Hospital, he is now dramatically improved although told he wont regain 100%, but he can actually work again now and is off the painkillers. I am a fan of chiropractors as although they wont help everyone this is a typical outcome.
