Crime Ex-Boyfriend Arrested for Stealing Over 2 Million Baht
Picture courtesy of Khaosod Bang Khun Thian police have arrested the former boyfriend of a wealthy family’s daughter after he allegedly stole cash and gold bars worth more than 2 million baht. The suspect, Mr Nattanun, 25, was taken into custody at a restaurant in Sathorn District, Bangkok, where he worked as a waiter. Police seized multiple items linked to the theft, including two iPhone 16 Pro Max phones, a Shark helmet, branded trainers, Pandora jewellery, Buddhist amulets, two bank passbooks and the motorcycle used in the crimes. The case was reported on 10 August, when the victim told police that valuables had disappeared from her Bang Khun Thian home. Stolen items included three 10-baht gold bars, gold bracelets weighing 3 and 1 baht, 280,000 baht in cash and 10,000 baht in red envelopes. They had all been stored in a locked safe inside the residence. Investigators quickly identified Mr Nattanun, who had previously been in a relationship with the family’s daughter and was familiar with the house and the location of valuables. A warrant for his arrest was issued by Thonburi Criminal Court, leading to his capture. During questioning, the suspect confessed to carrying out the theft on eight occasions over the course of a month, entering the home while the family was out during the day. He admitted to selling the stolen gold and spending the proceeds on personal expenses, gambling and to repay gambling debts. Mr Nattanun now faces charges of residential burglary, theft using a vehicle and unlawful entry. He has been transferred to Bang Khun Thian police for further legal proceedings. The Samut Sakhon Immigration Office, under the direction of Pol. Col. Pokchat Chaisukwat and Deputy Pol. Lt. Col. Setthapong Chumueang, launched the operation on 14 August following complaints about foreigners engaging in unauthorised work. Officers, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Jirayu Cherdchai, inspected a commercial building in Kok Krabue Subdistrict, Mueang District. They found Miss Mar Lar Aung had been teaching language classes to over 100 children, many of whom are children of migrant workers. Investigations revealed that Miss Aung had advertised the classes online through Facebook, charging tuition fees of 1,500–2,000 baht per student. Payments were reportedly routed through a foundation account, purportedly as donations for educational and religious purposes, with total funds circulating around 500,000 baht. Authorities confirmed that Miss Aung held a worker visa permitting only manual labour and had no legal right to teach. She has been charged with working beyond her visa permissions and providing false information to officials, which could potentially cause harm to the public. Community Singapore Olympic Council Inspects Pattaya Venues for SEA Games

Pattaya welcomed representatives from the Singapore National Olympic Council (NOC) on 15 August, as they carried out an inspection of competition venues for the upcoming 33rd SEA Games, which Thailand will host from 9–20 December 2025. The delegation, led by Anthony Lee, visited Jomtien Beach where windsurfing, jet skimand sailing competitions are scheduled to take place. They were accompanied by Pattana Boonsawat, Secretary-General of the Windsurfing Association of Thailand, along with association committee members, athletes and officials from the Sports Authority of Thailand and the SEA Games technical team. The inspection covered competition areas, launching points, marine safety measures, athlete accommodation and medical facilities. The aim was to ensure that all aspects meet international standards before Singapore confirms its preparations to send a full national team to compete. “The visit focused on evaluating venue readiness, safety protocols and supporting facilities so that the competition runs smoothly and at the highest level,” said Pattana. The findings will be submitted to the Singapore NOC leadership as part of their preparations for the Games. The SEA Games 2025, hosted in Thailand for the first time since 2007, will see thousands of athletes from across Southeast Asia compete in a wide range of sports, with Jomtien Beach set to be one of the major hubs for water sport events.
