They Can Just Switch On And Off 3G As It Suits Them, Not ?

Today I had to download a data file of 370 Mb, since my data plan with True which I use on my computer almost has no data left, I decided to use my AIS data plan which is inserted in my smartphone. I have that data plan for 4 months already and I always get a decent speed at my location. The indicator on my screen usually switches between H+, H and 3G

Today in early afternoon Edge only, E indicator on my screen, downloadspeed 10 KB/s.

Whatever I tried, and I tried everything for almost an hour including rebooting moving around and closing and reopening data connection, no way It would move from Edge.

Called them up and got the usual BS so I told them that if that was the case this would be my last bill cycle, I'm a AIS customer for 12 years by the way, then hung up the phone.

Within 5 minutes I received a call back with the question where I exactly was located and within another 5 minutes I received a downloadspeed of 250 - 300 KB/s. Never experienced such a high download speed, so I downloaded the file in about 40 minutes.

That mean they can just open or close the 3G connection with the push on a button, not?

However I noticed that I had a few interruptions where the speed would drop to Zero and within a few seconds back to top speed.

When download finished I left home only to return this evening. I tried to open the RAR file but it was corrupt, probably because of the interruptions ?

So I tried to download the file again and surprise, surprise..............only Edge again.

I think that leaves no doubts that they just can switch the signal on or off in the area they want. Thailand HUB OF 3G.

By the way I notice a similar event with my True move dongle which is inserted in a router, so it doesn't move ever. My signal strenght will switch between 68% and 41% depending on the day. How is this possible at a location in a rural area with the closest obstacle more then 500 meters away and a modem in a fixed location?

There is a situation where the phone gets "locked' into Edge until you put some code in to get back to 3G. When it happened to my GF, she called the phone co, they told her to do some code and it came up in higher speed. But I think it took power cycling the phone.

Powercycling is what I did this afternoon, but to no result. I only got a 3G after I called them up,I didn't do any powercycle after I called them.

This evening before I opened this thread I also did 2 powercycles, one where I switched off the phone removed and inserted the battery again, all to no avail.

I also called them up again, but I got the option to leave a message.

Customer service called me back after I posted this thread already, and denied they could manipulate the signal.

At the end he advised me to powercycle once more and said he would reset my connection. I did the powercycle to make him happy , third powercycle this evening, however I didn't believe in it.

But surprise, I got up to 320 KB/s down smile.png

Maybe I have to call them each and every time I want to use the service I pay them for, and he will wave his magic wand so I can have an acceptable speed.

Which data plan do you have with AIS/One-2-Call? Depending on the plan/usage to date you might be limited to 256 Kbps (32 KB/s), or 384 Kbps (48 Kb/s).

AIS's network is over subscribed and a hodge-podge of equipment they've weaseled out of dozens of suppliers over the years, and their 3G/900 MHz network is over-subscribed by a factor of 10 or 100! They do have a roaming agreement, for a certain number of customers, with TOT on 2100 MHz.

I'm on AIS Gsm Advance postpaid with a 2Gb limit from which I have used 979 Mb yet after downloading both 374 Mb files. I use this account only as Back up.

By the way, if I was over my limit they would also not possible to give me a 300 KB download speed only minutes after I called.

And if you look at my posts, this happened twice in a single day.

I notice internet can JAM and towers and wot nots get fumbled so when you do call they FIX the jamming or problem. they can switch off as you say by reducing bandwidth but usually it is just a problem and they need to RESET the system for that tower or base sation area.

I get the same sometimes in Australia. Not saying this is the real reason but I suggest it may be.
