Ok so I have an Education visa which I have extended for 90 days on 3 occasions so far with no issues. I also have just got a re-entry permit as I will be travelling aboard next month.

So while I was sitting waiting for my re-entry permit I noticed the "90 day reporting" room. Which got me thinking...."was my 90 day ED visa extensions not counting as a 90 day report?!"

A quick check online and it seems in that my ED visa extensions are totally separate from 90 day reports chai mai?

At no point has anyone at immigration or my school told me that these are 2 separate things..but yeh ok whatever my ignorance is not an excuse.

So what am I in for when I leave Thailand next month? 2k-5k Baht fine?

You are not required to do 90 day reports using visa entry - it is required when you stay longer than 90 days however and only the first extension of stay counts as such a report - after that you must use a TM.47 form. That nobody has seen or mentioned may mean they will not do so but if they do it will be a 2,000 baht fine.

I studied for four years, and never did a 90 day report. renewed the visa annually, never any issues or problems... I'm now on a different visa.

To OP: I am surprised that immigration has not noticed that you have not been making reports. Since you are making a trip out of country (no problem for no reports on leaving) you make a report 90 days after your return from your trip. You might be able to duck the 2000 fine that way.

Were you on an extension of stay or a multiple entry visa making border runs every 90 days?

I suspect it was a visa because if on extension of stay they would of caught you for not making 90 day reports.

After I did the first 90 extension on my ED Visa I took my passport to my Thai language school so they could record the extension info. When they couldn't find a 90 day report receipt they became very concerned. They found one other student who did not have a 90 report that day as well. So, they took our passports back to immigration (this is in Chiang Mai) the next day to get the 90 day reports done for both of us. They were, the school reps I mean, adamant that I would be fined if immigration checked and did not see a 90 day report. Some people are simply unaware, as I was, that an extension does not double as a 90 report but still, I don't understand why people, who are aware of this, insist on dodging such a little activity on purpose. After obtaining my last extension, and since I already had the paperwork in hand (except for a photocopy of the new extension stamp which I got at the copy shop around back) it took me all of 1 minute to knock off the 90 report. As far as the OP's situation goes, I'd go with ubonjoe's info about leaving on your re-entry permit before someone notices. In the meantime I'd keep 2,000 baht in my pocket.

Just a quick update. I left Thailand and re-entered 1 week later with no issues despite never doing a 90 day report.

On a side note, I had also lost my "Departure/Arrival card". I grabbed a new one at check in and filled out the depart side, managed to get through customs with no problems.

I'm thinking I most probably got lucky and the customs guy was too lazy to be bothered with doing anything??

I wonder when I do eventually do a 90 day report will I then be fined??

They don't check for 90 day reports on departure from the country.

You should start making 90 day reports. Your first one will be due 90 days from the date you arrive which includes the date of arrival.

There are teachers I work with, on extensions of stay, that have never done a 90-day report the entire time they've worked here (10 years+ for some). Their extension is renewed each year without comment and they exit & re-enter the country without problems (with re-entry permits). Very infuriating for those of us who dutifully do our 90 days.
