[Myanmar] Abused Burmese Workers Make Eu, Us Products: Report

Featured Replies

Two tuna factories and a fruit-processing plant in Thailand that supply the US and EU markets are suspected of seriously violating migrant workers’ human and labor rights, Finnish non-profit organization Finnwatch said on Monday. The factories are using “forced and child labor, unlawfully low wages and long hours,†and are involved in human trafficking, the group said. Unicord and Thai Union Manufacturing make tuna products for US, European and Australian markets, and Natural Fruit supplies processed pineapple to European drinks maker Refresco. Most of the companies’ employees are unregistered Burmese migrant workers, some as young as 14, Finnwatch said.
