NLD leader Aung San Suu Kyi told BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs on Sunday that she is still “fond†of Burma’s army despite the “terrible†things it has done in the past decades when it ruled the country. “People don’t like me for saying that. There are many who have criticized me for being what they call a poster girl for the army […] but I think the truth is I am very fond of the army, because I always thought of it as my father’s army,†Suu Kyi said. Her father Aung San was Burma’s leading independence hero in the fight against Britain and the founder of the Burmese army.
