I've used Mike's Bike's n Car rent in the past. Top insurance, much better rates than Avis etc. The Aussie may have sold the biz to a Canuck recently but email or phone should connect.

I will heading to Phuket end of April and will be staying at the Cape Panwa resort which is a bit out of the way. I would like to rent a car for about a week or so..any good car rental places you can recommend. I don't need anything flash just a standard car with auto gearbox woill do just fine.

This link has website, phone number and locations for a number of Phuket car renters. I do not know which is best as I have no personal experience of them but it will give you an idea of the cost.

For the best prices by far I would recommend www.phuketjeeprental.com. They have cheap and nice cars but a limited supply so you have to put your reservation in early. Most place in Phuket are overpriced, sometimes evenmore expensive than in Europe! Just be sure that you have good insurance. Cape Panwa is lovely.
