I believe that you have until September to apply at the DLT office for replacements free of charge, after September I think it will cost 100 baht.

There was also mention of a processing time but I do not recall the period, but it may have been something like 7 days but that sounds very ambitious to me. When the new plates are ready you exchange old for new.

Bamlamung Land Transport Office will not commit to the free aspect of the program but have backed down on the requirement to turn in your plates when you request the new ones, They also are sticking to the 90 day waiting period, which is clearly wrong according to the attachment, which states that new plates will be issued 14 days after application

Just went to do this today, and can confirm you do not need to turn in your old plates first (or even show them). They told me 45 days wait for the new plates, at which time I will take in the old plates for exchange.

This problem is pretty much confined to those who purchased a new car within the last 2 1/2 years, and they have replaced the faulty plates vendor. Embarrassing to have a car you take pride in looking beautiful, and have this cracked aged-looking plate.
