Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corp will resume vehicle production in Burma from May after a two-year hiatus, the company said on Wednesday. According to a report by Dow Jones Newswires, Burmese authorities gave the company the go-ahead to restart production at its plant in Rangoon. The move comes after Japanese Finance Minister Taro Aso confirmed that Tokyo would waive much of Burma’s 500 billion yen (US $5.4 billion) debt to Japan and offer an additional $540 million in fresh loans. Suzuki is set to start producing its Carry light pickup trucks in Burma, but further details were not available.
