The UN’s special envoy on human rights in Burma, Tomas Ojea Quintana, said he will visit the country next week to assess the impact of the conflict in Kachin State and other rights-related issues. “I will be lending my voice to calls for a ceasefire and progress in addressing minority issues,†Quintana said in a statement, referring to ongoing efforts to push the government and Kachin rebels to end a war that began more than a year and a half ago. Quintana, who will arrive in Burma on Feb. 11 for a five-day visit, has traveled to the country several times since it began a series of reforms nearly two years ago.
