Truemove: "the Number You Have Dialed Is Not Correct"? O.o

Weird thing going on with friends phone. (TrueMove.)

They cannot call out or receive calls. Messages not being sent or recieved.

The message when calling the number (in Thai and English) is "The number you have called is not correct, please try again later".

When calling out, just goes to the numbers voicemail. Doesnt ring or connect.

Its been the same number for years, with no hiccups.

Will contact TrueMove if doesnt rectify soon (has literally just happened, and been this way for about an hour now).

Just wondered if anyone has had this happen to them before.

Thanks.

Does your friend have TrueMove? Or TrueMove H?

Make/model of phone? Please be detailed, if you are able. Turn off phone, remove battery, remove SIM, re-insert SIM, re-install battery, re-start phone.

Talk to others nearby to see if they have the same issue.

Could be a localized, or larger scale, HLR issue at TrueMove? Is the friend in a new or different location?

Are they calling another TrueMove customer (on-net)? Or another service provider (off-net)? Could be an interconnect/gateway issue.

How do they know they cannot receive calls?

More details please.

1. Is it possible that the phone in question hasn't been topped up in a while? If they had lots of credit on their phone so weren't topping it up regularly, it's possible the expiry date for the sim snuck up on them.

2. The phone's gone nuts. Happens sometimes, pointless trying to figure out why unless it becomes a regular issue. Take out the battery & sim, then replace and switch on.

3. Transient problem at the switch. Happens sometimes, fault or routine maintenance, usually short-lived and fixes itself.

Lost count of the number of times seen similar problem. Always one of the three above...

Well..weird thing is its working now. Will post an update if it goes weird again.

Make/model of phone is Nokia E600

Yep, friend was in different location. Went to Bangkok for a few days.

They tried calling other numbers, as well as sending messages, and nothing was going through. (Calls going to answer phone).

(not sure what you mean lomatopo when you say how do i know if calls arent going through. My friend got hold of me on skype and said they have been trying to contact me and wondered if something was wrong. We tried calling each other via mobile whilst talking on skype and realised there was a problem with either the phone and/or truemove. Not my end, i could call out to other numbers fine.)

bobl, you might have it right with the topup actually. But, never known that to happen. Weird if true isnt allowing the person to receive calls even if the credit is short.

Anyway, no idea really. Seems to have resolved itself. If any weird issues crop up with it again, we can check with true and ill post an update. Otherwise just putting it down to one of those weird things.

Even with zero balance one can still receive calls.

Obviously validity remained as one would have received multiple SMSes and IVRs had this been the issue, and now it is working.

Assuming your friend is on TrueMove and you are on a different provider my best guess would be a simple HLR or gateway issue on TrueMove.

I remember the early days of mobile, when you had to pay to receive calls too... :-)

But that's not what I meant - I meant if they haven't topped up for a while, the sim's validity date won't have been extended so may have expired. Commonly happens with people who come and go a lot, if you leave for a few months unless you remember to extend your sim validity before you go, chances are it'll be dead by the time you get back.

That said, it sounds like it was (3) anyway (a transient problem at the telco), which it usually is...
