Considering buying either a Audi A6 2.4 V6 or a Volvo S80 2.3 T. We are talking second hand cars, about 10 years old. They are in the same pricerange. Any posters out there with experience of those models? Why should I choose any of the above mentioned models over the other. Or more importantly, why NOT ?? Thank you.

Back in the real world I had 2 Volvo's at different times. Here in LOS I would only own a 10 year old one if it was given to me.

Bought a Brand new jazz, 4 years on decided to sell it a buy something bigger and Luxury, in my mind was the 'S' class Volvo or the Saab about 10 years old.. this was early in 2008.. I have owned Volvo's before

I ended up with the Audi A6, Saab the model I wanted a good one was well over priced even for Thailand, or tatty, lesser models were just that, Volvo's lots about but nothing stood out + so many with LPG, did not want., looked at a few Audi's almost all there in very good condition, most 1 owner from new + most low KM..

Almost 5 years on had very few problems, couple of odd things and fixed cheap mostly by part modified from a VW 2nd hand parts.

Depends what you are going to use the car for....... would think much easier to get parts for a Volvo as there are a lot here + 2nd hand parts, if you needed something important for a Audi maybe take weeks/months to arrive from Europe, if it cannot be repaired here.

Well I hope you find what you like but buying an over priced 10year old car in Thailand would not be for me.

The main Thailand assembled makes of cars at secondhand are bad enough at the prices they want but you can get a good 1 year or 2 year bargain when paying cash IMO.

Anyway good luck with it, both are nice cars when new.

Thanks for the reply. I am fully aware of, that the "smart" car to own here is a locally assembled Japanese. We already have a 2 year old Civic, which is in many aspects a nice car, but I like European cars better. As I am not willing (able) to pay what a new Audi or Volvo costs new, so I thought a second hand of the above mentioned models for around 350k could be a good buy, if you are lucky. Fully aware of expensive parts and few authorized garages.

@ ignis. Thank you for a good reply. Hope I will be as lucky as you have been.

...nothing wrong with second hand Audi/Volvo....if,there IS nothing wrong with it smile.png ....one owner, low mileage, regular maintenance and if kept out of the sun, than it should be OK....for sure much more fun to drive than Honda/Toyota tin cans wink.png

I would be careful with the 10 year old Volvos for one reason. Many of them are used as hotel or tourist cars with tons of kilometres on the clock which has been turned back. As mentioned, many have been converted to LPG. Audi would be my choice, but the parts and repair price will be a killer if something major goes wrong. Another factor is that for some reason I'll never understand, Thai people think Audis have no status, are not desirable or good looking. Boggles the mind, but true.

It doesn't help when their model range is split up between two completely different distributors, and neither has a very decent dealer network..
