Thai experts will visit Amarapura Township, Mandalay Division later this month to excavate what is believed to be the historic tomb of former Siamese King Uthumphon, the Bangkok Post reports. “The Association of Siamese Architects, eight experts, including architects and archaeologists, will excavate the stupa in search of ashes, relics and other artifacts that could verify if the stupa is the burial site of King Uthumporn,†the newspaper wrote. The excavation of the site should be done now, as it is due to be cleared for an urban development project. King Uthumphon was brought to the city of Ava as a captive, after Burma’s King Hsinbyushin invaded the ancient Thai capital Ayutthaya in 1767.
