Burma’s Defense Ministry has been allocated more than a fifth of the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2013/2014, Democratic Voice of Burma reports. It said the new budget had been presented to Parliament and some MPs opposed the fact that the military continued to receive most of the government expenditure. This year the military would receive almost 21 percent of the budget, a few percentage points less than last year. “The defense budget is 20.86 percent—the highest percentage—of the national expenditure and the MPs didn’t discuss much about it. The government did not provide much detail,†Pe Than, an MP of the Rakhine Nationalities Development Party from Arakan State’s Myebon Township, told DVB.
