Where To Buy Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 In Bangkok With Vat Refund

Featured Replies

Hello, I am looking to buy a (new) Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" 16GB tablet Wifi Grey, if possible getting the VAT refund for tourist. Where would you recommend ? Online or in mall.

I thought about MBK, but any risks of being fake ?

Thanks.

Maybe just try Powerbuy, a big-box retailer with outlets in most malls, or a straight-up Samsung shop, again with outlets in most malls. I am 99.95% certain Powerbuy issues the VAT Refund for Tourist documentation, not as certain about Samsung shops, but just ask.

A quick, but far from comprehensive review, shows P3100/8 GB for 8,900 and the P3110/16 GB (varying 3G versions so beware: 900 or 850) for 11,900.

Discount counter shops in MBK likely have originals but they may be grey-market, factory-seconds/reconned/refurbed, or they "fell off the truck", so beware.

Likely to be Chinese knock-offs in MBK, especially if you buy from one of those no-name booths.

Just go to any Samsung store and buy.

In fact I went to MBK to buy a Samsung knock-off. I got a Samsung Galaxy SIII (knock-off) for 6000 baht. I asked specifically for a knock-off and was told it was, despite the Samsung label on the device and on the box. While I was there, another customer came along and inquired about the same phone and was told it was 11000 baht.

If you do NOT want a knock-off, be wary if you do not shop at a Samsung store.

^ Most Thais go to Sue Pa Road for copy phones, and low cost mobile phone accessories. Basically wholesale prices there, this is where people who operate mobile phone shops/counters/kiosks, like those in MBK, source stock. Individuals can shop there as well.

Obviously one will not be able to get the VAT Refund for Tourists paperwork from a counter shop in MBK. However there are reputable retailers there; I think there is a Samsung shop, along with Jaymart. Higher-end destination malls focusing on tourists like Siam Paragon might offer a better shot both legitimate first-run product and VAT refund paperwork?

I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 before Xmas and the cheapest place I found was at the airport. The only risk of course is whether they the Tab 2 in stock.

Can you share any details? Exact model? Price? Airport? Shop? Price? And you got the VAT refund?
