[Myanmar] Us Official Met Suu Kyi To Discuss Reforms

A US government human rights negotiator met with Burma’s opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and government officials last week to discuss the country’s political reforms. Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Michael H. Posner met with Suu Kyi, Presidential Advisor Soe Thane, Attorney General Tun Shin, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Lt. General Kyaw Zaw Myint on Feb. 22, according to a State Department press release from Monday. “Topics for discussion included the government’s recently announced political prisoner review process, religious freedom for ethnic minorities, the human rights situation in current and former conflict areas, responsible investment practices,†the release said.
