Burma’s government newspaper The New Light of Myanmar accuses villagers in the Irrawaddy Delta’s Maubin Township of starting a clash that killed one policeman and injured dozens of officers and villagers. Hundreds of farmers gathered in Palaung village to reclaim land that was seized by the former military regime in 1996. The paper’s Burmese version Thursday claims protestors then refused to follow a curfew order. “About 150 people, who held sticks, knifes, arrived back in the area. Police and security forces who are already took control of the area deterred them, but they did not listen and clashed with police,†the paper wrote. “Because of this, two officials and other 28 security forces were injured.â€
