Through a community-forum I got the indication that there
are still elephants roaming in BKK, though more out of the view of the crowds.

Can somebody please give me an indication where they can be
found???

Thanks on forehand!

Yeah they are out there roaming freely with the wild tigers.

Too be honest you have more chance of seeing begging farangs in Bkk.

These elephants were banned years ago, and I certainly havent seen any meandering along Suk Rd in a few years.

Sometimes have pink ones flying past the windows though.

That would be illegal in BKK. You might occasionally see some in Pakret or Nonthaburi City, but they certainly wouldn't be used for begging or any performance stuff .

Usually on the footpaths........though some hide in the strawberry patches.

Yeah, but where?

Find the strawberries and the trail should be evident.

I thought they preferred bananas. I saw one in Nan about 2 weeks ago, but I've heard they are pretty much banned everywhere except a few rural villages. There are LOTS of places where to go see elephants, though. Why would you want to see one of the sad creatures used by the street beggers?

Yeah. As I explained already they are out-of-sight of the mass like in Sukhumvit and surroundings I think that somewhere in the suburbs they are still braking the law.

Since the authorities were enforcing the laws more the mahouts got more and more aggressive until the time I was with Karl Amman in Soi 7 where the Spiegel-Television crew and Karl was attacked even with a bull-hook which appeared on the German Television.

Any info about present presence, if there is, is welcome!

Thanks!

So now I understand. You want to get involved in another countries business and try to tell them how to run their country. I would concentrate on curbing Germans loutish behaviour in Thailand.

Might be you can ventilate your ideas in the Queen Sirikit Convention Center as the CITES meeting is still going on..................

To be honest I was just considering to hire Batman to screen Bangkok's 9,330.337 sqkms and than I got the "brillant" idea that there must be some "helpful" TV-members around...........................tongue.png

Now I'm confused ... are you looking for Elephants, Trolls or Strawberry Fields?

You will not find them in Bangkok, if you travel to Nonthaburi you will see them around Ngamwongwan road and Prachinwet 3.

I have seen one in Ngamwongwan 23 almost every night around 7pm.

I suggest you go back to the sources you quote and question the authors as to the veracity of their reporting.

When and where were these photos taken.

copied from one of your links above,

Now they seem to be noticed near Chokchai 4, Ladprao, Minburi

Take a trip up to Chock Chai 4 on Lat Prao, its not exactly open green fields, I have driven in this area over the last few years, say the last 5, and have never seen any elephants.

They aint exactly something you can hide out of sight, too be honest the area above is a sprawling housing area, so cant imagine where they were being kept.

Last time I saw one in Suk was late 2010. Last one I saw in Bangkok was in the small sois between Pratunam and Makkasan just after Songkran 2011

rgs:

Well, the last photo in lower Sukhumvit (all are mine) was 25-7-2009 and after my visit to Safari World (also a touristic question-mark) with Karl and the reporters (Thilo Tielke was living many, many years in Bkk), they went to North Thailand to film undercover the baby-elephant smuggling from Burma into Thailand. Approximately after that time the (BKK) authorities went really tuff, although for the crowded tourist-places, and they disappeared from there (finally).

Indeed, Chokchai si is crowded but there are always hide-outs to find as I saw in lower Sukhumvit where they were lots of times able to disappear all of a sudden if for them necessary.

Would you be so kind to message me more about your Chokchai si, Ladprao and Minburi info? I'm living only around 13 kms. North of Minburi.

As far as the links I placed in my album they were from (very) trustable)
sources so I don't understand what you mean!

Thanks for the useful info! I am sure that it's still going on somewhere.

On the beach,Rayong,killing tourists.

True! I was reading the sad story, and it's not the first time. They are still roaming as beggars all-over Thailand, especially the tourist-areas but, living in BKK, I'm locally interested at the moment.

Op.

It was the Thai wife,of a German National, that was gored,to death,by 2 year old elephant.

Not much for research,are you.

Out of curiosity, what do you propose to do when you locate the Elephants?

Is it photography?

What?
