This is a new mall that's turning out to be quite nice. Prices are a bit high, but a good selection of restaurants, coffee shops and knicknack shops. A bit hot during the day right now, but after the sun sets, would be a good to have a bite to eat or a drink. One place is offering 2 for 1 draft beers. There's a violin concert at 7:30 tonight. And I've heard there is a show that is free now, but will start charging soon.

Has anybody been there yet? Here's a pic I took this morning. 2 big swans and a nice pond between some of the shops. Lovely.

Still lots of work going on. I think maybe 1/2 of the stores are now open. A big food court in the back.

It is a bit pricey, but not that bad. They've done quite a good job with the looks.

Have you been to the floating market? How would you compare the two? I've never been there and probably won't now that they are trying to charge for a visit!

Have not been to the floating market for a couple of years, the complete madness of the amount of people there any time i pass puts me off - crazy success that attraction, even with charging now it does not seem to have cut the crowds one iota!

A lot to come from Mimosa yet, an incredible transformation to that area, very well done IMHO!!.

Can you please give more specific location please, I might take my family out there when the music festival are over and have a look.

I forgot to add, been to the floating market, will never go again, a tourist trap.

Is it that completely out of direction overpriced tourist trap you're talking about?

Is the place air conditioned? If not, I'll pass thank you.

It's an open air mall. A bit too hot during the day, but lovely after the sun sets. The shops and restaurants have AC. The food court does not.

Some pics are here:

I'm just pointing this out in case someone is looking for something to do here in Pattaya. IMHO, it's worth a trip there to check it out. But to each his own!

Out of direction depends on where you are. Many TV members live down this way.

Over priced? A bit yes, but it is unique. A bit like that village in Khao Yai, if you've ever been.

Thanks for the info, it looks very nice, I will defiantly check it out. We got our own wheels so can always leave again whenever we fell like it. We might take a bite to eat or just looking around, depends on the prices.

It looks like many things are happening out in the Ambassador hotel area now, always sees a lot of tourists (Russians?) outside Amba. hotel on Sukhumvit trying to catch a ride into Pattaya on the bath busses.

Yes, the Ambassador is Russian Central. Maybe not 100% correct as most are from former Soviet Republic satellite states, not really Russia. At least that's what I think.

If you go, please post your views here. I haven't eaten there yet, but will do so soon. If you don't like this place, just down the road is the new Pan Pan. Quite nice and good food. The View is nearby also. A bit hit and miss, but the location right on the sea is nice.

Am I missing something here?

What if I am taller than 90 cm and NOT maried to a Thai and am here on a tourist visa (meaning not LIVING in TH) ??

I had a look 2 days ago when it was still free to get in.... aaahh, better no comment.

What I DO have to say is that this crossing from the Ambassador over the highway is DEATH waiting to happen in my opinion.

There is a footbridge a couple of hundred meters away, but we know human nature... Most people will try to dodge the racing traffic to get to the other side. The pedistrian traffic light is OUT OF ORDER at the moment, one light post missing alltogether.

Remember, the Ambassador is full of Da Das and on the Mimosa side are also the liquor stores!!

Are you sure that isn't an April Fool?

I thought the place was a pointless waste of time when it was free! As for paying to be bored out of my skull, I'll pass, thanks.

A shame for the mushroom place in the food court though; I would have gone back there.

Then what is the full price?

200 Baht.

The place is owned by a Ladyboy hence the reason for the Ladyboy Shows in the evenings.

The large dirt carpark on the right side of it is scheduled for phase 2 which construction begins later this year.

I drove past there last Saturday and was tempted to pull in the parking lot just for a quick look, until I realized that they were just putting macadam on the front parking lot

Says a lot about a venue that stupidly waits till a weekend to fix a parking lot that should have been completed on day one

I went there today with my wife and son.

50bath entrance fee pr adult person, son free.

Lot and lots of Thais out there taking photos of each other in front of the pretty buildings, and I think it's quite pretty, the architect have shown good taste (in my opinion).

It's all shops selling all kinds of stuff, Thai herbs, T-shirts and so on, prices seems okay.

There is a Thai style food court with food from 40 bath and up.

A couple of restaurants shattered here and there, one had a sign: Live music every night from 830 PM.

It's not yet complete finished build, they are still building here and there.

All in all not a bad way of spending 1 hour, think I will go back when they are 100% finished.

I'm confused - the Floating Market charges an entry fee, but at least they have something different, shows, etc, and it makes the tourists in their tour buses feel they are getting something worthwhile.

Just what is Mimosa charging for? 200 baht each to go shopping in an outdoor shopping mall to buy the same things you can get in Big C?

Posted

Well, some might say that if you can get people to pay money for something they can get free, then that's pretty enterprising.

They have cabaret style shows as well

Had a similar encounter at Mimosa the other night, their website said 50baht admission, over 60s free, went up there and they would not have it, pay 50 baht or not go in! I know it's only 50 baht but it's the principal, they advertise something then do not abide by their own adverts! Anyway went in, complete waste of time inflated tourist prices, just another shopping mall with a food court and the " water show" lasted nine minutes! My first and last visit. No cabaret.
