EC to endorse Sukhumbhand as Bangkok Governor today

BANGKOK, 27 March 2013 (NNT) – The Election Commission is set to endorse M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra today as the investigation into complaints against M.R. Sukhumbhand cannot be finalized in time.

According to Election Commissioner Sodsri Sattayatham, the Election Commission will hold a meeting to endorse M.R. Sukhumbhand as Bangkok Governor today despite complaints made against him after the election on March 3rd, 2013.

However, as the law states that election results must be verified within 30 days of the Election Day, the EC will have to approve M.R. Sukhumbhand, given the investigation is still ongoing.

The investigation has been under way into 3 complaints filed against MR Sukhumbhand, one of which involved violation of section 57 of the Local Election Act.

So at least Pheu Thai does not rule Bangkok entirely, even though Mr. Sukhmuband isn't any better...

Imagine a total Thaksin and Pheu Thai total domination in Thailand,....crazy.gifcrazy.gifcrazy.gif .... well technically they are ruling aka terrorizing Thailand already, but it was just that microscopic scope of Bangkok people that was missing to SCAM the entire Nation without taking ANY PRISONERS....hit-the-fan.gif

EC to endorse Sukhumbhand win despite investigations: source
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Election Commission (EC) is preparing to endorse the victory of Democrat Party gubernatorial candidate Sukhumbhand Paribatra in the March 3 election, despite ongoing investigations into complaints of irregularities, according to a source who asked not to be named.

The law requires the EC to endorse the election result within 30 days of the vote. This only gives the agency until March 2, and the investigations were not likely to be finished in time, the source said.

The Bangkok EC has agreed to investigate at least four complaints of electoral irregularities.

Should the EC find evidence of electoral fraud and have to order a new election or a disqualification, it will have to pass the case to the Central Appeals Court.

Hello the nation, that " source who asked not to be named" is selling you information you can get for free from the national news bureau.

(but okay it might be the case that if you as a commercial newspaper republish the national news bureau news you may have to pay royalties for it - so maybe not "free")

The Bangkok EC has agreed to investigate at least four complaints of electoral irregularities.

Now that is interesting. others news speak of 3 complaints, the source who asked not to be named seems to have knowledge about at least(!) 4 complaints.

It would be if they investigate complaints against both sides. But they're not so it's nothing like democracy.

BANGKOK: -- The Election Commission voted 4 to 1 to endorse the gubernatorial election winner, Sukhumbhand Paribatra, as the new Bangkok governor.

The EC decided to endorse Sukhumbhand's victory as it could not wrap up investigations against him within 30 days as required by the election laws.

The EC will continue the investigations and if it finds grounds to suspect wrongdoings, it will have to ask the court to disqualify Sukhumbhand later.

everybody is entitled to file a complaint if he thinks he spotted something unlawfully.

one of the complaints against Sukhumbhand came from the guy who also filed the famous cooking show complaint that brought Samak to fall.

what makes you think its one sided?

They are 'investigating' complaints against the Dems for 'slandering' or similar, Sukhumbhand for premature nomination of advisors & some other frivolous claims. Not a word about investigating PTP for using peoples names & photos without their permission - & other less serious claims.

You are seriously deluded if you think anyone can file a claim. Only those with power or status are listened to & unfortunately that means PTP party members & maverick ex-senators.

Can MR Sukhumbhant really get going and do something, or is his status still in such limbo that if he would be disqualified later on (via the Central Appeals Court) he might be charged with whatever he did between now and the possible date of disqualification?

Anyway, in Bangkok since a week or so we have nice new garbage bins outside. All plastic, Ochre colored with a transparent inner bin and equally transparent lid. In other words, transparency has come at last!

Let me see now. 4 to one is a majority of 80% and a democratic one at that.

PTP won the national election with only 48% of the votes cast which is NOT an overall majority but they are in power.

Double standards anyone?

Democracy means nothing if every decision taken by the people can be overturned by a partisan court system.

This is why the notion of an 'independent judiciary' is always under fire from power-hungry vindictive politicians.

Not that I think Sukhumpand is a saint by any means, but I doubt that his main opponent Pongsapat, with the full weight of Pheua Thai, the government and the Red Army behind him, was any cleaner.

The people of Bangkok have spoken, and they have spoken for Sukhumpand.

Note to politicians of all stripes: Stop playing political power games and start running the country.

And wasn't Pongsapat, a Police General?

Sukhumpand has to be light years less dark

It applies equally to all sides in the Thai political debate.

They make a sham of asking the people what they want, and when they don't get what they want, try to subvert the process on 'legal grounds'.

Grown-up democracies tend to accept the verdict of the people, however flawed it may be.

I'm no expert in US politics, but I think that the number of US presidents who have faced impeachment proceedings over 320 years is 2 -- contrast that with the number of impeachment threats made in Thailand on a regular basis.

impeach-medium_zpscb38a42e.png

Growing up involves accepting that you can't always have what you want; Thailand will be much better off if its politicians on all sides can learn to achieve this.

So, endorsed already or not? Mind you, the EC still has five more days. Lots of things can happen in five days. Some even discover the use of 'ignore' in five days, imagine -)

And isn't that same guy now complaining that it was illegal to disqualify Samak for the cooking show ?
