A Shan drug suspect who worked under the late drug lord Naw Kham was set to begin trial on Friday in eastern Burma, according to border news sources. Aung Myat, a lieutenant of Naw Kham’s drug trafficking gang in the Golden Triangle, surrendered to Burmese authorities in May last year and was subsequently transferred to China to testify as a witness in Naw Kham’s case there. Earlier this month, on March 17, Chinese authorities transferred him back to Kengtung Township in Shan State for his own trial, according to reports by Shan news agencies.
