I reckon we should report at 7/11 for 10 Baht.

Exactly. Right after you pay your government electric bill, or whatever. That's what I'm talking about, but again, somebody will find a way to f***k it up and 99% of us pay the price.

I pay my True Visions, Electric, Water, Internet all at 7/11

All bills have my name and current address on, plus they prove residence.

Why on earth can't they set up scanners in 7/11 that work on a bar code (for immigration)?

I'm happy to pay for the service, like the other things.

If any government agency in the west openly stated that transactions through the local supermarket would be monitored and used to determine addresses there would be a huge outcry.

To suggest that such a process should be used here is ridiculous.

Reading not your strong point 12drinkmore....... or maybe you should 1 or 2 less.

The 90 day address report is for staying longer than 90 days - if you leave before that time it is not required and you make your next report 90 days after you return (and if you leave again it again resets).

I was told, maybe you can confirm, that if I stay away for a day somewhere else at a hotel, then as the hotel has to report the presence of a foreigner with immigration this also counts as a notification.

However, it is not a path I would go down.

I am with the side of those who say, what on earth is the problem with going to immigration every 90 days or sending them a letter? Clearly the vocal minority around here have far too much time on their hands anyway. Getting out for a couple of hours every three months should be seen as a chance to widen their horizons and do something a bit different to sitting in front of a computer and whinging.

Its a requirement, it happens 4 times a year, so why worry about it !!

Because it's stupid. Once a year and/or notify them if there's a change of address is adequate.

Its their country their rules, stupid or not. and for 4 times a year it can hardly be considered a major chore.

Most offices accept reporting by mail so wheres the hardship?

We all have a choice......

Yes but coupled with repeated trips to labor dept re WP business, and trying to run a business, it' s an unreasonable burden that is for nothing. it's half a day wasted. Kinda makes you see how this country lags behind even with all its resource and geographical advantage

Jump, whitey, jump ! Jump through the hoops !

.No that report has nothing to do with your requirement to report address every 90 days (other than both being in the same immigration act of 2522).

As a teacher in Pattaya I'm fortunate to get up to 10 paid "business days" off work a year.

So I drive down to Jomtien immigration 4 times a year, at about 10 am and always on a Friday. I hand in my paperwork and then start the weekend off with an ice-cold beer or two in Soi 5.

That's the purpose of 90 day reporting.

Yes it is a normal public holiday shown in red on almost all calenders here.

I suggest you go to the general topics forum and open the pinned topic at top of page that is a list of all holidays here and print it out.

Friday the 12th is also a holiday that was approved by the cabinet that does not appear on calenders.

I believe it is a safety measure to allow locating Farangs if there embassy needs to or if they go missingI

I seriously doubt that because that would constitute a service and "services" are waaay too few and far between

for farang. Simply put, NOT in the mental make-up.

Quite right, we absolutely do have a choice,,,,,,,,,we can choose to say whether it's stupid or not.

Yes, but we should not complain too much about it, otherwise they will change the 90 days to 30 days, moreover, prior to going to the immigration office, they may asks us to first visit the local police station in order to to officially confirm our address.

Are you really THAT paranoid about speaking your mind?

In which case you'll probably have an almighty long walk to the back of the queue!

Strikes me that the 90-day frequency is a bit excessive. Why not every 12 months concurrent with annual extensions of stay - with a duty to notify any address change in the meantime within 24 hours (consistent with the obligation on house owners & hotels to report details of foreigners staying on their properties)?

In my humble (and cynical) view, the purpose of a 90-day reporting frequency is 2-fold:-

(1) To make life as difficult, awkward and inconvenient as possible for long-stay foreigners; and

(2) To chop down as many trees as possible in order the generate the mountains of unnecessary paperwork held at immigration offices.

It should be like in China - where you only report your address at every extension or re-entry from abroad, within 24 hours in urban areas or 72 hours in rural areas. There is no need to re-report your address if you stay inside China within a 1-year period and don't change where you live during that time. Essentially, reporting is done only when you change your address.

Probably so as to check wanted lists.

It's not just this requirement, which is a pervert check essentially, it's the trips to labor, 2, 3 afternoons wasted paper chasing, and then the visa runs,, etc etc.

I cannot see how it is reasonable for legally employed workers to have to leave to beg for a visa elsewhere FOUR times a year .

It's like two weeks of bureaucracy per year,

That you have to hire assistance for Immigration forms that should be in English- inexcusable. Wake up Thailand HELLO ?? ASEAN??

In the last ten years I have never missed a 90 day report.

Now they have a stack of 40 reports, all with the exact information.

Dumb.
