Google Earth Not Available In Thailand On Android?

Featured Replies

Hi, just tried to get google earth on my mobile (samsung), only to find it is not available in your region. Is this correct? If so does anyone know why and if there is a way around this.

Poke though Thailand isnt on the list of supported cpuntries i see

Some funny business regarding Thailand and maps and google. Last year they arranged it so google maps can save maps to the device in Android, but not for Thailand. Lao ok.

Not sure what "funny business" means exactly but Maps and Streetview work fine here, off-line caching, Navigation and Earth have limited availability - you can usually determine the availability on the Google product support pages. (Not sure if you can install Earth on a PC with a Thai IP address?)

Earth (for Android) is available in the following countries:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States

However it is relatively easy to locate the earth.apk and side-load it. A Google Nexus 4 purchased in the U.S. comes with Earth, at least mine did.

Off-line map caching (of limited area) and Navigation can be hacked on a rooted Android device, to work here in Thailand.

In some cases Google has said that their regional maps are not accurate enough for Navigation. Navigation is still referred to as "beta", and is available in:

I have Google earth on my Asus tf700 and Android 4.2.1 and works very well. I just did a direction request from my home in Chiang Mai to another location and it plotted the route out flawlessly including a complex U-Turn. Surprised me that it was that accurate.
