Visa Run 3 Weeks Before I'm Due To Give Birth!

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if immigration is likely to allow me to postpone my visa run in the weeks leading up to the birth?

My doctor said he can write a letter to immigration if the baby is already showing signs of movement by then but he wasn't sure if it would work. Would I still get fined 500 baht per day if I couldn't extend my visa for medical reasons?

Even if the baby decides to wait until I'm home to make his appearance I'm still not keen to spend a day on a rickety old bus when I'm almost 9 months pregnant!

You can apply for an extension of up to 90 days for medical reasons. Cost will be 1900 baht.

Be sure doctor states in letter that you cannot travel.

Per above, based on letter from your doctor confirming you should not travel for medical reasons you can get a 90 day extension from immigration.

Great, thank you! I have a double entry tourist visa at the moment, issued last month, do you know if this will be affected? Will I still have another entry if I get the medical extension or will it already be counted for?

Whether you loose the 2nd entry of your visa will depend upon how long your extension is for.

If you do not make a border run before your visa expires you will loose that entry.

Are you aware that you can extend you 60 day tourist visa entry at immigration for 30 days for a fee of 1900 baht..

Thanks ubonjoe, the 30 day extension will take me up to three weeks before the birth, without it ill have to go to the border next month, which is also possible but I'm just trying to work out the best way to get more visa for my money and not travel too soon before or after the birth.

I'm not sure if it can be both cheap AND easy. It sounds like a 90 day medical extension is a good idea, even though I lose my other entry.

The medical extension will be a lot better than the lost entry.

So... I can get a 30 day extension on my 60 day visa, then get a 90 day medical extension which will take me to the start of September, and still use my 2nd entry and get another 60 days at the border which can be extended for an additional 30 days at immigration.

Is this correct?!

Not likely - what is the expiration date on your visa (date it must be used/entry made)? Once that date is past the visa is invalid for use.

So after June 6 that visa can not be used for anything. So you have the choice to extend 30 days/extend medical. Second visa run for 60 days/extend medical or extend medical now and maybe again if unable to travel later.

paying 500 baht/day fine pales in comparison to doing a visa run at this stage of your pregnancy.

. It sounds like a 90 day medical extension is a good idea, even though I lose my other entry.

Well aren't kind of getting that "extra entry" without even leaving if you get the 90 day med extension?

Be sure the "doctor's letter" states explicitly that you can't travel until xx/xxx/2013 -- a date 90 days aways. I've seen too many "medical letters" that just details the condition, treatment and confirm dates of hospitalization, without expliciting stating that travel is prohibited until some date in the future.

At least here in CM, they assume that upon the date of discharge, you can travel, unless the doctor has specifically said you can't travel AND noted an end date to his statement.
