Advice On Buying A New Car From Dealer

Featured Replies

Dear All,

I just relocated to Thailand and I need to buy a car (yes, my company unfortunately doesn't provide it for me but I do need it).

I have decided to buy new since 2nd hand cars seem too expensive and I have no experience in recognizing a good from a bad deal.

My choice is between Toyota Yaris and Ford Focus. What I would like to ask you, is if it is possible to get a discount from the price list. I see that the dealers report the same price that you find in the official website, but maybe it is possible to negotiate (or not).

Your suggestions would be of great help!!!

Thank you!!

Erik

Negotiate a lower price rarely happens, best to negotiate more "free" extra's.

Not many can get discounts on 'fresh' models but its worth a try and worth shopping around.. Some models with 'extra kit' i.e. sporty models may be offered at a slight discount as they are already marked up...

It is common to be able to negotiate additional extras...

i.e. Free Years insurance, Free window tint (film), mats.

Thanks a lot! I will try. For example, Toyota already offers the free insurance for 1 year (I have no idea how much it would cost anyway) while Ford doesn't, but Ford offers a 0% interest rate for finance 48 months.

Strange, as I have just booked a new Ford focus, I couldn't get 0% finance, but I did get 1 year free insurance, plus a few cheap extra's including film, couple of bits of trim, furry seat belt covers (who the hell actually uses these!)

I think the 0% promotion will be available only from after Songkran to the end of April.

Which dealer did you use? I went to Latkrabang dealer. I would like to book a test drive too but they told me the fiesta is not available for test drive now...

Surprised you can't get a test drive on a Fiesta, the Ranger I could understand as they are on a long waiting list but just back from a Ford dealer and they had a dozen Fiestas out front. Give Ford HQ a call and I bet they will line up a test drive for you at your nearest dealer very quickly.

Good suggestion. I will. Even the dealer I contacted has plenty of Fiestas, but they are all already sold to customers, so they cant use them for tests... They told me to go to the motor show, where I would be allowed to "turn on" the car to listen to the engine...haha.

Scotty, your honesty is refreshing. I got F.A on my Civic. Didn't want Credit, so i got Cheap Film that i turned down, I did get a Free Orange Juice and a Bolt on Goodie Brochure.

A result then at least you made the dealer laugh.

Consider yourself lucky if they offer you free floor mats. You will get 0.00000 % discount . This is the sad state of the car market in this country. So many gogos with no money sense f... the market real bad.

Quit frankly from what i read here,Freebies =Crap Service Departments. No one seems to Bemoan Toyota's or Honda Service generally. Il settle for Service, over Free insurance, a Fluffy Carpet and Waste Bin.coffee1.gif Whats more non of the Buggers like cash do they.sad.png

I think the zero percent interest OP is referring to is for the Fiesta only.

Maybe he mentioned the Focus instead of the Fiesta by mistake.
