Hi,

I'm coming to Bangkok soon to get married.

I am hoping that some one can recommend a budget hotel.

The three places I need to go are,

1-My Consulate,Thaniya Building,62 Silom Road,Ban Rak.

2-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs,123 Chieng Wattana Road,Laksi.and

3-the Amphue in Ban Rak which I'm told is the most convenient place for Farang/Thai weddings.

I have never spent much time in Bangkok and don't know it well.

I wonder could anybody recommend an hotel that would be central to these locations.

I understand that number1 and number 2 are close to each other and we might have to go to each of those twice. Then one longish taxi to the Amphue would not be so bad.

,

So a budget hotel with wi-fi,air-con and a decent mattress is what I'm looking for,no frills needed.

Probably in the 800Bht range, but I don't know Bangkok prices.

I really do't want to land at Don Muang and not know where I'm going

Good luck. That Ban Rak Amphoe was totally uncooperative for us so we went to another uncooperative Amphoe in Wattana with no luck until the translation place took us somewhere so we could get married on a 3rd try. Hotels for 800 baht? No you better dig deeper and double that and you'll have some choices unless a short time fleabag will do ya

Also, you need at least a couple of days if not more to doo all you want and don't forget you will need to provide two witness when you registered your marriage at the amphoe. By the way Phra Khanong amphoe on Sukhumvit Rd was the one I used and it was free not one single baht spent to register my marriage.

Right,

I know I will be a few days in Bangkok.I must get an Affidavit from my consulate, get it translated and get the translation approved by the ministry of foreign affairs. Those 3 I have to do in Bangkok.

My information was that Ban Rak was easy for Thai/Farang marriages so I thought that while I was in town it would be easier to get married as well.

Now I'm thinking that I should get the affidavit, get it translated, get the translation approved by the MFA and get the hell out of Dodge.Get married in our local Amphue in a quiet town or Chiang Rai city.

Am I to understand that it's not just a half a days doddle to pop over to the Ban Rak Amphue and pick up a marriage certificate.

Anyways, back to hotels ,me missus says the Consulate is near the sky train so we could go down the sky train to

Sucumvit Road.I think there are respectable backpackers hotels on soy 5.and NOT soi 4.

Any suggestions for a hotel nearer to Thaniya Buildings.

Thanks to all who helped

8oo Baht in Bangkok?

You hardly get a hostel for that.

Check out IResidence at Chong Nonsi: good for Silom activities and with BTS at the doorstep.

Forget the 800 Baht...not possible!

I never heard of having to bring witnesses to the Amphue.

As for the hotel price I will pay whatever the going rate for a backpacker's hotel in Sucumvit Soii 5 unless some one has any better recommendations.

And how do you reckon about which Amphue, one in Bangkok,Chaing Rai city or our local country town in Chaing Rai provence.

Thanks for your help.

Guess youd be better googling backpackers places in bkk than ask here on the forum dont you ?

Just an idea , but you asked for a hotel , not a hostel .

I stated already but will reiterate as an fyi of what happened to us 3 years ago. turned away from Bang rak for ambiguous reasons. just prep for rejection as it happened to us...TWICE. I dont remember #3 when the translation place accompanied us. Bang Rak was a nightmare as was Wattana. It was a lot of waste as we hired a taxi and 2 witnesses for wattana. Bang Rak, lol, garbage for us I'm afraid. Oh yea they said the machine was broken or some such BS. good luck. this is real down home experience. I think later we were told by someone that there's an unwritten procedure of submitting a 1000K note or more hidden in ur paperwork. not sure what went on. we were not happy at all. hope you will be. slip ups will cost you

Go early to the Amphue, around opening time. If you arrive there after 13.00, there will be too many people waiting to get married already.

I didn't need any witnesses, 2 goverment officials signed the papers for free. You don't need a 1000 baht note to get service.

I spend a couple of hours at The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was very busy that day. The good thing is they have a restaurant at the bottom floor which you can use when you have to wait while your papers are being processed.

Thanks to all who helped,

I think we will see how wee feel after the ministry of foreign affairs.

We might stay another night and strike off fresh and early to the Amphue,

Or we might have had too much heat and hassle and head back north to finish the job another day.

Whichever I feel a lot clearer about it all now,

Thanks again

Why don't you ask your fiancé to help you?

Is she Thai?

If so, ask her.

If the OP's fiancé is not from Bangkok, or hasn't spent much time there - then she probably won't be much help in finding a hotel around these specific locations.

Hence the OP posting this topic and asking forum members for advice.

For around 900 baht you can get a room at one of the Nantra properties. This would give you easy access to Sukhumvit by skytrain (and therefore to a larger part of Bangkok as you can interchange with MRT).

There are a few Nantra hotels- the closest to a BTS is Nantra Sukhumvit 39 which is close to the Phrom Phong BTS.

I have stayed at the Nantra De Comfort (on Thonglor between Thonglor Soi's 5 & 7, nearest BTS Thonglor) and Nantra Ekkamai (a few minutes walk from BTS Ekkamai)

Rooms are clean and modern, with the emphasis being on affordability without too many frills.

Do a search through Agoda, or google their website and call them direct.

I have opened a lot of topics about getting married on ThaiVisa over the last month.

I have been jeered at and insulted so many times that I've stopped retaliating.

That's why I didn't reply to the last smart ass that said "why don't you ask your fiancee".

My fiancee has never stayed in a hotel in Bangkok before, she also has never married a farang before.

But that guy was just a smart ass,I've been down right insulted and had my fiancee downright insulted too.

Some of the insults were so bad they they were removed form the forum before i could read them.

But these are in the vast minority especially when you consider all the people who just read and don't respond.

Takes all kinds,i suppose.

The last reply about the Nantra hotels was bang on.My fiancee is figuring out which one is nearest my Consulate.

Restoring my faith in mankind.

So what's the deal in Ban Rak Amphue.should I get married there or in Chiang Rai.I must fly to Chiang Rai anyway.

Ban Rak might be slow because there are so many people,Chiang Rai might be slow because they are not used to Thai/Falang

marriages. Is Ban Rak a hassle even if you're there first thing in the morning.

Don't let a few idiots put you off - I still find this forum extremely helpful for getting information.

Ignore the trolls - or hit the report button.

Apart from that - good luck in your search! laugh.png
