Six Government Workers Murdered In Pattani During A Meeting

Six killed in broad daylight attack in Pattani

Six people were killed and two were injured on Thursday when suspected militants opened fire on a local government office in MaYor district in broad daylight.

Four heavily armed men on motorcycles opened fire on the Kradoe tambon office at about 11.40am. Five people died at the scene while another victim, assistant tambon chief Anurat Isarapongpan, died later in hospital.

"The attack was very cruel. It took place in broad daylight when the office was crowded. The victims were easy targets because they were all in a meeting room, said Wirat Prasetto, district chief of MaYor.

Initial investigations showed the officials tried to fight back but their weapons were inferior, said Wirat. The attackers snatched the weapons of the victims before fleeing the scene.

Police found a box at the scene of the attack, which was later checked over by a bomb squad

Despite the many reassurances from the PM that he will resolve the Deep South troubles "soon" (he first started proclaiming that in 2001), the turmoil persists unabated and conditions worsen.

Wonder what Mr. Toxic will do now?.. I bet my life the answer is "NOTHING"

doped up killers, with or without illicit drugs in their bloodstream.

Extremists kill reporter, 5 officials

Islamist militants stormed a meeting of local officials in Pattani province this morning, killing six Muslim men including a TV reporter, and wounding a woman.

Government officials in Pado district said they believed the extremists were making good on a threat to revenge the death last month of their leader.

The victims were mainly officials for Pado Subdistrict Administrative Organisation in Ma Yor district. Among them was a reporter for television Channel 3.

Police reinforcements could not even reach the meeting hall, because the insurgents spread spikes on the road as they fled.

The extremists attacked the meeting from outside, spraying the Pado district meeting room with gunfire from automatic wepons.

The Pattani bloodshed came a day after extremists gunned down the principal of the biggest Islamic school in Yala province, along with his teenage son.

The principal, Mada-oh Yalapae, had been seriously wounded in a drive-by shooting by two gunmen a year ago. He was shot three times but survived the attack.

His predecessor at the Islamic school, Sapaeing Basor, stands accused of being one of three masterminds behind the southern insurgency and is now on the run with a 10-million-baht ($240,000) bounty on his head.

Where's the PM? He's in Issan campaigning for an election that most likely will not happen...
