The rudest and loudest people I ever seen.

i had the misfortune of traveling with a large grop of them on Airasia from Don Mueang to Singapore last night. <deleted>, it was chaotic from the time the announcement for boarding till the plane took off. Why is it so hard for them to queue up orderly, and why is it so hard to figure out what seat each has been allocated? They were arguing with each other, standing on the aisle, and blocking everyone behind them, where they should be seated! And, they seem to be all half deaf, cos they were all shouting at the top of their voices to each other even to the person sitting on next seat. Good thing I had my earphones and music.
Must be a cultural thing , I've experienced the same ,even at a lodge in NZ once (so they weren't low class Chinese).

Generally seem unaware of the concept of "consideration " unless pointed out to them .

must be your cultural problem.

most Chinese i know behave totally normal and proper.

and if it happens that i stay over the weekend in a hotel on Phuket and i have the choice to share the hotel with a group of Chinese, male American collage student who have a the same hair cut or large group of middle age white single men - i would prefer the Chinese group. they are the least disturbing ones. check in late quiet, having their breakfast very early in the morning and move on - you will barely notice them.

Sorry ,but definitely a cultural thing.....a view shared by all of my Thai friends .

@Impulse, No one trusts Chinese official figures, especially the Chinese.

Anyone that has experience in China knows how obtuse and loud the Chinese can be, they don't mean to do it, it's just the way it is.

I've got a few good Chinese friends who have recently qualified from British Universities. They laughed and cringed at the antics of new entrants from China, mainly because of self recognition.

I could tell you dozens of stories that I've witnessed but the one that I can't get over is how they conduct themselves in nightclubs. They virtually set out to deliberately bump into you, it's ridiculous and in the West you would be in a boxing match every other minute. I cannot explain how bad it is to you.

The staff in my office were on their knees with laughter one day, they knew I was astounded at the noise level they regard as being normal. A lady came into the office with a delivery and it was the wrong item, she used the phone to call head office and she nearly blew me out of the window with her foghorn voice. I just looked at her astonished and remarked " tell me, why is it she's needing a phone again? ".

Don't go to China without earplugs, it's unbelievable.

yup.....they're not familiar with the concept of queueing among other things. Just wait till you see a mob of them drunk. whistling.gif i

They won't have anything on the drunk mobs of Brits that are vomiting all over Europe. Binge drinking is a national sport in the UK.

You obviously haven't had to many maotai dinners in China have you

No, I haven't had any. I was talking about the Chinese I've met in Thailand.

Oh, another cultural thing. guess what my Thai friends say to my Chinese friends?

Come with the most clownish locking neck tie you can find to work. you will get compliments for your style.

start to complain about prathet saharat. they will agree with you. tell them you are from China. they will tell you how they love it.

The rudest and loudest people I ever seen.

Do you mean Chinese people or do you mean tourists?

some tourist can be very rude and bad mouthing people. like talking bad about the local people. i have seen such people here to. but i don't think they are Chinese.

Agree with you so many tourists are bad mannered, I visit Koh Lhan frequently--difficult to know the difference between Chinese Taiwanese and Korean unless you speak their language, The Chinese stand out more as their clothes-particulally the mid age bracket are somewat old fashioned and the Chinse DO tend to argue about deck chair prices and goods more than the more well behaved Kor/Taiwan tourists.

Another feature with the Chinese is they spend Little on every day shopping, As Nisa and other google fanatics/TAT figures show what they pay for their holiday rather than what they spend locally. BUT I agree it goes into the Treasury--good---

An item on Thai T.V. said that tourism is Thailands biggest earner ????? figures give us 8% but we are overwealmed with tourists at the minute. We have to believe what we can, rather than google up TAT or a.n. other. seeing is the best guide to how many tourists are here. What they spend is very dubious, I never see Chinese spend big ammounts---it all goes on their ?? day package.

Reports say Chinese spend more than the average tourist. maybe not in beer bar but in other places.

Agree again BUT it is calculated on their package, via operaters etc, air all inc hotel food, what others experience here is their LOCAL spending that differs from Westerners who spend money directly into pockets of -girls boys, venders beach chairs, drinks---whole lotta differences in style. Most westerners mix with Thai people, rarely Chinese they stick to tours together,

I add they are certainly good for tourism as is anyone who arrives here as they all contribute. Sometimes the wrong angle is taken when posters speak a little about them mixing--but its true.

Reports and stats do not and can not give individual spending other than package--different to westerners cause we know what average they may spend locally-or we have a better Idea, when they open their wallets.

One of my pals is a lurker on the forum and he mentioned this thread, he has a restaurant near Thapae Gate and he reckoned that the Chinese were good spenders on a per table basis, drawing 3-4000 baht from a table group wasn't unusual. He didn't recognize the daily spend figure.

I noticed one of his staff studying Chinese recently, which is a bit of a cheek as his English is still diabolical. Then again, maybe he has it right, it may be that Mandarin will become more important than English in CM.

the calculation is done on package price alone, if it would that would only mean that Chinese are generally over charged compared to the average package price. it is truly about spending habits.

yes westerners "mix" and give bar boys and bar girls the money and buy them drinks.

Chinese tourists create income too, for those who have a steady jobs in the tourist industry. And Chinese spending habits don't focus on beach boys and drinks, they are more likely to make the OTOP shops happy and go for more cultural sites. if you don't see them where you hang out it doesn't mean the buy nothing.

the majority of westerners are probably package tourist too and not all go to beer bars.like the older white men.

old men pay bar fines might not be calculated into the statistics, but bar fines are only tiny part of the tourism industry and not the best.

Everyone contribute a little to the economy. The Chinese obviously little bit more.

It is calculated on the same things it is calculated on for any other tourist from any other country and I don't believe it includes airfare and if it did then you have to give the Chinese even more credit for their spending since they probably have a lower flight costs than most coming here. But again, I don't believe daily spending includes airfare as it would make the numbers non-comparable and make countries like China and other close countries appear to spend less.

No matter how determined you may be to belittle the Chinese spending habits it is all money being pumped into the economy and for the good of the people of Thailand. The value of buying from the old lady selling noodles on the street to going to a restaurant that employees people and pays taxes is very disputable. As for mixing ... that just makes no sense. Tourists go to tourists spots and given the number of Thai citizens who are Thai-Chinese one can assume the Chinese probably mix more even if you consider the number of farang sex tourists mixing with bar girls and boys. There is also a very large number of Chinese living and working in Thailand.

Bottom line it is what it is and Chinese are not the top spenders individually but they are good spenders and they currently are the leading country visiting Thailand and in fact they are currently the most sought after market for most countries in the world looking to tap into more tourist dollars.

As for other posts about them being rude ... I guess much of that depends on how culturally aware you are towards others. Just about any poll I have read about international tourists always rate Americans and numerous European countries well ahead of the Chinese when it comes to rude and disliked tourists but even this is probably mostly based on different cultures.

Yet again you assume wrong.

Asian sex-tourists outnumbered 'farang' sex-tourists years ago and their numbers continue to grow.

Asian sex-tourism is growing at an exponential rate across the border in Cambodia also, they now outnumber 'farang' sex-tourist by some margin I believe.

Single males from China cannot find enough single women in their own country and there is a surplus here. They have been wife shopping in Thailand for decades.

Just the other day a top Chinese official on a business trip in Thailand was caught visiting brothels and gambling dens.

Wait until the casinos open in Thailand, then you will get a taste of what the PRC are like, or better yet, speak to a Hong Kong Chinese or Singaporean Chinese and ask their opinion. wink.png

So, I actually assumed 100% right according to you but as usual you love to try and argue with me even when proving me right and even when you quote me using a partial statement / sentence. Edited by Nisa

speak about what I encounter, I have not said Chinese are rood ++++++Their spending is their package--The lot.

. guessing 90% of what they spend IS pre paid, that is how it can be calculated.

Look Nisa don't go over the top on the Chinese, seems to be a bit of an obsession, I think their contribution to the travel here is brill. I comment fairly on the friendlyness they give to Thais= not much, as they are on a package and seem oblivious to others around.

as for mixing, you said they mix with Thais more than westerners--BULL, your comment about the % of Chinese Thais here ??? 10% that control the country, so they mix with them on holiday--Ha Ha

You mentioned Polls --please give us a break, pols here are usually carried out with 1,678 persons questioned, up to you if you believe. Don't you ever comment on everyday politics ?? most are on stats type topics, underage stuff, vary your subjects a bit.

Just the other day a top Chinese official on a business trip in Thailand was caught visiting brothels and gambling dens.

That's interesting - I googled it, but came up blank.

Perhaps you would be so kind as to include a link for where you got the information.
