Hi, I have read lots of previous threads re PR, but it is still unclear to me which category has the best success rate of obtaining PR - given that one is in a position to consider different categories.

Background - I have just got my 4th non-immigrant multi B visa from Hull consulate (Thanks guys!), but am legally marrying my Thai partner in a few weeks, (We had a religious ceromony last year since I was waiting for completion of my UK divorce). She has a daughter by a previous Thai relationship and gives birth to our baby son in a few weeks. After legal marriage, we will apply for me to legally adopt her daughter, who gets on great with me and treats me as her father.

After legal marriage, I can change my visa status to O and then apply for a 1-year extension based on support of Thai wife etc etc. Then wait at least 3 years before applying for PR etc.

So I could do no work for 3 years and then apply for PR based on support of Thai family etc.

But we have business interests in Thailand, (build holiday villas in Phuket, also building a small holiday resort for disabled tourists). So, I could get a WP as manager of these projects, pay tax etc and then apply for PR in the work/investment category.

Finally, with a 1st class degree and Masters degree from the UK and 15 years background as a space & satellite consultant, (rocket scientist...), I could start up a Thai business within the space sector, (which seems a good industry sector for Thai national pride), and then maybe apply for PR in the expert category.

I don't want to go down the routes of WP or starting a space business in Thailand if these are not neccessary to improve my chances of getting PR.

On the other hand, I don't want to sit by the swimming pool for the next 3 years (minimum), apply for PR based on support of Thai family - and then be rebuffed for failing to work, pay taxes etc etc.

It is early days for me re PR, but I want to try to ensure that my background in the years leading up to PR application maximises my chances of success!

Any suggestions/comments most welcome

Not sure if from Sunbelt or others but the figure I recall being mentioned was tax on over 80k per month salary as a window opener.

Odds are you will be ok with an salary of 80K Baht per month if married to a Thai and you have had a child together.

Single and the number is more like 100K Baht per month.

These are just guidelines.

So if it is all about tax - does this have to be earned in Thailand or can i just get a tax code and pay tax in thailand voluntarily based on the monthly earnings specified...

Out of personal experience I can confirm this. Maried to a Thai with a child together they were happy with the tax paid on 80K per month.
