Driver's License Expiration Date

Featured Replies

Hi,

My driver's license is valid until Apr. 26th and I just heard that it is not important to renew it before expiration date.

That I can actually renew it later on and it would still be valid?

Is this right?

Thanks

Blossom

Depends on which DLT you go to - one may tell you that if you're late you're your licence is cancelled and you need to start the whole process (test, 1 yr lic, etc) again, while another may tell you that you can only renew it once it has expired!

Unless you get information that's both up to date and local you'd do well to go to the DLT and check yourself.

My wife just renewed/switched her 8 month expired 1 year temp car license to a 5 year one in Pattaya.

If you renew your 1 year one before it's 1 year overdue you can get the 5 year one with only eye/reaction test.

If more than one year expired you will have to do a full test: theory + practical test on track.

5 year one can be renewed up to 3 month before it expire but if you renew and it's expired with one day= full test.

That is in Pattaya, other rules may apply for other places.

Where I live mid Thailand 2 week's over due and full test, can be done 1 month in advance, but now you have to look at a film about safety 1 hour, all in Thai but you still have to look at it.
