Reds complain, yellows stay
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The red shirts yesterday filed a complaint with the nine-member Constitutional Court, asking six of the judges to rule on whether the three who accepted a petition against the amendment of Article 68 of the charter have committed a constitutional offence.

The group said that by accepting to rule on the petition, which may stop Parliament from amending the charter, the three judges may have violated Article 3 on the separation of powers of the government, judiciary and Parliament.

Meanwhile, Prasong Soonsiri paid a visit to the yellow shirts at Sanam Luang to show support to the Constitutional Court judges.

Prasong, former Royal Thai Air Force squadron leader and former secretary-general of the National Security Council, said the Constitutional Court is like "a terminator of political termites". He told the yellow shirts that the current charter was legally accepted through a public referendum of 15 million supporters. The government was also elected under the current charter, so it cannot say the charter was derived from the coup-installed government.

He added that the move to legislate amnesty bills would be tantamount to pouring fuel on a fire.

SOUTHERN VIOLENCE
Three to be named on AMLO list

The Nation

Three Thais found to be involved in financing, supporting attacks

BANGKOK: -- The Civil Court yesterday cleared the way for the names of three Thai nationals found to have been financing or supporting insurgent violence in the Deep South to be added to the Anti-Money Laundering Office's watchlist.

The three Muslim men are Amran Ming, A-Hama Kache and Abdulloh Maming. Their identification numbers and other details are published in full on the AMLO website.

They have been found to have helped in an attack on an Army outpost in Narathiwat in January 2011, in which four soldiers were killed, including the unit commander, and many others wounded.

Financial institutions are required to discontinue any transactions with them and with other people on the AMLO list, and to provide details of any accounts belonging to the three. Violators will face imprisonment and fines.

Meanwhile, yesterday in Pattani, there were multiple bomb attacks that caused property damage but no casualties.

The bombings included three key spots in the Muang district's downtown.

In one incident, the windows of the Diana department store and a Toyota auto showroom were shattered after a gas-cylinder bomb was found at around 4am and detonated by a disposal squad on site.

The blast also damaged nearby buildings, a service vehicle and three parked cars.

Taking no chances, military ordnance disposal units are now opting to defuse or detonate bombs at the scene. The change in procedure comes after a recent accident that killed three Navy personnel at a Narathiwat base during disassembly of a bomb that was collected from a site.

The Toyota showroom and the Diana store have been the target or suffered indirectly from three bomb attacks in the past nine years. Yesterday's incident was the fourth. The first incident occurred in 2004 and saw two police bomb-disposal officers killed at the scene while trying to disarm a device.

Also yesterday, a roadside bomb consisting of 50 kilograms of explosives in a metal box went off at around 7.30am in Yaring district. There were no injuries. Another roadside bomb blast at around 10.40am in Muang district wounded three police officers patrolling in a pickup truck. Two civilians were also hurt.

Police are tracking a suspected insurgent, Kareeya Sadam, who is wanted for his alleged role in the roadside bomb attacks. A manhunt commenced shortly afterwards but had not yet located him as of press time.
