Fonda Shot Down

Featured Replies

Some people saw the insanity of war and made their choices based on what they knew to be true. How many guys volunteered for Nam? Granted, there's always going to be some, and even some who served multiple tours. But most were drafted and if they had the choice wouldn't have gone. Remember, Nam was the largest draft ever. :o

It is no secret that most people are selfish and would avoid service and taxes for that matter while reaping all the benifits of living in a free country.

There was a draft during World War II also. How about if everyone had refused to go to that one?

Luckily, the fashion back then was to do one's duty. :D

Haight Asbury? :o

He was Jerry Garcia's shoe-shine guy. :D

:o

Yes, Boon, the only reason people didn't go to Nam or buy the bullshit was because they were tripped out. :D:D

It certainly couldn't have been because they were rational. :D

Well, K. Tippaporn, by the adolescent style of your writing, I'd say you wern't even born when Vietnam came around... :o

they just bouight the story .....

Yeah, well, some of us lived the story too... :D

wow Boon! if you LIVED it you'd know that Vietnam was NEVER a WAR ...Never Declared .. and silliness in the extreme ... You tried the Tonkin Gulf thing before but you know that that was about anything but what was going on ... and the situation that got the resolution passed was fabricated out of full cloth.

yeah ... well ... seems like many people old enough to have lived through the USA's involvement in Vietnam just never looked at the facts .. they just bouight the story .....

Yes, and most of them were young people who were trying to avoid serving in the military for selfish reasons or others who were just into the trendy anti-war movement of the 60s - fashion with no thought at all. :o

Uselessly G ..... That's funny ... "most were young" ... well DUH they didn't draft the OLD ... and selfish reasons? 1) they thought it was unjust 2) It wasn't a war 3) It was mostly the educated that fought the US involvement there ... 4) I guess getting beaten or shot for NOT fighting is just being 'trendy' :D It was thought with no fashion at all ... not the opposite

Uselessly ... more people volunteered for WW2 ... why? Even with the spin it was just not thought of as evil .. like Vietnam. As for service and Taxes ... such an empty staement ... not worth worrying about.

Regardless of your strict definition of the term war, the Police Action might as well have been a war.

You got some of that Bill Clinton disease, jdinasia? - "depends on what the definition of "is" is?" :o

They WERE shooting at us! :o

jdinasia, rational thinking doesn't mean a hill of beans to these guys. They will accept only that which fits their personal view. Everything else is either ignored, ridiculed, non-existent, or rationalized in such a way as to make a force fit. :o

That's OK K. Tippaporn, you still have a chance to make a difference!

That's right - you too can join an organization to rid Iraq/Afganistan - wherever those nasty war-mongering GI's are and make your voice known.

And, if you get kidnapped by the freedom-loving 'insurgents', they'll always let you go in the end like that Christian Monitor chick today! :D

...if they don't cut your <deleted>' head off first... :o

You can fix that with duct tape.

That thinking convinces the rest of the board you are still lost out there in the Far-Left Fever Swamps.

Shouldn't imagine Europe, Asia, the PI etc. were liberated if one took that view... :D

Mai Pen Rai Krup :D

it has become obvious that these 2 have never served ...

Probably a bit too old for Vietnam ...

So Boon ... since (back to the topic) the Toonkin Gulf Resolution didn't apply to Jane Fonda .. since it was repealed before she went ... it was written NOT for actions in Vietnam but to cover Cambodia and Laos ... and the situation that got it created was fiction ... it pretty well blows everything you say ...

So ... what is it .. you are just one of thee guys that got your feelings hurt by the reality that the US has screwed up almost all their foriegn policy after WW2?

Why doesn't the US have the draft today? Oh yeah .. the Vietnam conflict era people grew up and won't trust the Gov't to do tht again. ...

Please read the first rule in your signature before making idiotic claims that you can't prove. :o

Or could be that the armed forces have enough people right now. Just a thought. BTW, the draft can still happen. Just because the government hasn't tried doen't mean tthey have stopped doing it.
