I sent a mobile phone ( - the battery) in January from Australia to phrapradaeng.

Needless to say it did not get to phrapradaeng

And I did not have it insured.

A wild guess I would say some postal worker in thai now has a nokia phone.

The DHL-Story ends at Bangkok. After that, it will be turned over to the Thai-Postal-Service for final (inland) distribution.

Cheers.

As others have pointed out this isn't true, DHL uses employees for every stage of the delivery.

Perhaps you got confused with EMS, which is indeed delivered through the countries' postal systems.

As I live some 400km from BKK, DHL turned it over my new iPad to Thai Post in BKK, but kept tracking it. I went to the local post office last Saturday morning, and picked up three boxes which weren't going out for delivery until Monday - even though all three said they had been delivered on the tracking interweb thingy. You learn after a while how to make sure you get a parcel.

so true, I had the same thing happen, tracking said it had been delivered a week earlier but I had not sighted it. After some chasing around I went to the local post office and it was there, it had been raining & the postie didnt want to get wet so he hadnt done any deliveries for the week, only in Thailand

DHL?

They deliver to your door, but if you're not at home, they'll give to anyone to give it to you when you return.

So what's the difference?

It'll cost you more for not getting it.

My bank will only send via DHL at no cost to me, once I was not home and my missus rang me to tell me DHL was there but as my signature was required she could not accept ......... told her to tell old matey to come back after 6.30pm, he did.

Things like this never reach my home. I have started having CC and other important documents sent my my office. OP your right, its the attitude that allows it to continue.

Tip of the month.

I had my creditcards (among other items) NOT delivered at my home adress in NK

Had a chat with the Manager of EMS post, and he suggested a PO BOX

so i did.

since then I hardly miss anything anymore.

treu story!!!!!!

A friend in Pattaya who has a PO box also gets all his stuff delivered. Maybe the weak link in the chain is often the postman who delivers (or not) to your house?

I have had several Credit/Debit Cards sent to me in Thailand over the last 7 years without a problem. However, I have had issues with two Banks UK side. I should have received a new Debit Card when HSBC changed from Master to Visa Card. They did not tell me of change over which resulted in me eventually trying to do withdrawals from ATMs here, but unsuprisingly failed and left me stranded without funds. I phoned the Bank who very politely advised me that the Card was waiting for me in my Branch in the UK, despite the Bank having my registered address in Thailand. They did manage a quick fix for me until a new card arrived, but when I pointed out that my registered address with them was in Thailand, why did no one think to contact me? I never did get a satisfactory answer. My other issue was with Barclays. I had to make a very large transfer from my UK to Thai Account and knew I had to ask to do so in writing. Because the funds were required for a stage payment, with a time limit, on a construction project. I sent the letter EMS. The funds failed to arrive on the due date. I contacted Barclays who said they had not received my letter. I contacted the post office here who told me the date, time and person who had signed for the letter at Barclay's HQ. The consequence of that was a complaint to the Ombudsman, which was supported and a change of Bank. Just to let everyone know that all the cock-ups don't necessarily happen in Thailand.wai.gif

Had the same experience myself sent my wife one she didn't get it then a sent two envelopes one with an old frequent fliers card and the other a blank piece of paper posted both at the same time and low and behold she got the piece of paper but not the card. Rotten thieves don't give a shit what inconvenience or problems they are causing for people. <deleted>.

Not understand why not send creditcards via registered mail in the first place. This is asking for problems !

It's not a happy birthday card or something like that. ifQdCt0mkxHHs.gif

Popular belief has it that people unknown scan incoming letters with metal detectors to pick up the magnetic strip on cc (must get a lot of false signals from paperclips). Also urban legend has it that there are no recorded cases of a credit card forwarded in original envelope making it to owner here.

Very frustrating, not having them arrive at their destination.

Annoying, to say the least, that they seem not to really care to take any action over the thief.

Personally, I'd not have a bank card sent from my home country any other way than DHL or similar. Too much risk. Then maybe the added problem of the bank not being too happy about having lost - in your case - 2 Visa cards.

More expensive to have them sent via DHL or similar, but safer.

I would not use DHL to send anything here to Thailand. Tried several years ago, to have some personal items shipped here from the states. Their tracking system works well but the item was stolen before it ever left the states, at an Air Force base of all places. The final DHL from USA to here uses military AC to make the connection. Go USPS from America or fed ex. USPS is cheaper and fastest of them all.

I would not worry too much, you would usually have to activate the card anyway with your bank before it can be used

My cards do NOT need activation. sad.png

You like to send a credicard from your home country to Thailand?

Use a express service! (FedEx or UPS or DHL Express) sure this coast a little bit more but it's more safe then normally mail!

Never happen. Criminals.

When i used Fed Ex it was Fed Ex that5 delivered it.

and when DHL is used it is DHL which delivers it. i get at least once a month a DHL document shipment.

The problem is DHL and Fed Ex tax the hell out of you, plus more. You must be an employee or family member because most people don't use them.

Never had problems with post until I moved to Koh Chang. The post office there is clearly corrupt, and foreign mail is misplaced or stolen. No longer send it direct to my house, and just collect from my head office on the mainland.

Absolutely. It depends on where you are. Meaning zip code most of the time.

Have used U.S. mail, registered mail, for credit/debit cards twice with no problems.

70% of packages sent to me from people in the U.S. have never arrived.

I once sent my wife a letter with money in it from the states. The letter was delivered, but the money had been removed!

Stupid me, I was lucky they delivered the letter!

When in the states I purchased many, many things online. good quality, lower price!

Have been tempted to purchase online from Thailand since I have had so many problems with bad quality things sold here and stores unwilling to make good on replacing defective merchandise.

I know if I order anything of quality online in Thailand it will go home with the postman and I will never see it.

These thieves should be put in prison.

Oh, wait! This is Thailand, it's like tea money, they are entitled to it!

Sorry!wai2.gif

The biggest thing to remember is have a tracking number.

My experience in rural Isaan (land of thieving postmen): get a PO box and send by registered

mail. Not lost anything since I did this. Our local postie has been seen holding letters up to the sun to perceive the contents. Since we complained he delivers to our neighbours who are expected to then bring it to us. I am going to get this guy out of his job.

As said if you order FedEx or DHL to an area they serve (such as Bangkok) they deliver it themselves.

As for mail have a card sent me every other year normal unmarked mail without incident for a decade now so they are not all taken by any means. We do provide a small New Year gift to Post/Garbage workers each year. But post office has no way to check unless registered or EMS sent and there is probably just as much chance of it having been taken prior to arrival in Thailand than here.

If you have relative address you can use for accounts home address probably best to do so and have them forward by registered mail or courier service rather than depend on bank itself. But the risk is to Bank rather than you if from US or many other countries with strong protection for consumer.
