Why not just ask when the film actually starts when you buy the tickets?

They will say 9:00 regardless. wink.png

Too true. I've only been to a few movies in Thailand and was surprised to even see previews, let alone commercials. But then there are many things I experience in the land of smiles that I just shake my head about and carry on. I can't change what is so I just accept it.

I do know that now I'm back In Canada I miss some of the "freedoms" I had in Thailand. I have to follow a whole bunch of rules and laws just because they are laws for law's sake. Why do I have to stay within 10 km of the speed limit when there is nobody else on the road but me? But, if I drive 15 km over the speed limit on some deserted highway and happen to pass a highway patrol coming the other way then I will get a speeding ticket. And, it won't be some 400 baht fine. It will be more like a 7000 baht fine and points on my license.

Just like everywhere else in the world. Except where bribes are the Normal.

Personally I don't go to the movies, (too cold and loud), and I have not TV reception device in my home. I get everything I need downloaded from the Internet. This weekend my 18 year old daughter was asked by friends to go to the movies. She told them I had Iron Man 3 and that she would rather come over and see me and watch on my 60" tv and Yamaha/Bose stereo rather than go to a movie theater. I watch everything/anything I want. I download it all from the Internet, And No Commercials.

Glad to hear life is so good, that is all you have to worry and comment about! Movie ads! How many off you remember when there were few English language movies to be seen, yet alone shown with English sound track.

I am glad my life is good too biggrin.png

Personally, I think the adverts are all part of the cinema experience; I miss the aptly named

...

EDIT: Not a

of cinematic history...

That is the problem with North America both sides of the border. So many laws passed that are fear based on the very very worst thing that could happen so make it all illegal.

I have no problem with wearing a helmet on a bicycle but when B C passed the law making it mandatory their reasoning was 11 deaths a year are caused in all of Canada because the bike rider did not have a helmet on.

Chiang Mai has kind of become a part of you I see.

What did I ever do to you?biggrin.png

The misses would kill me.

Not sure but I think there is a ad for some tablets with charcoal in them and some others that you drink stuff in a little bottle from 7/11 and you turn into a beautiful white skinned Thai women.

When I first went to a movie here about 6 years ago I thought the ads were pretty neat. Now they are just boring. That is because the ads have changed. Not me. I still like a imaginative ad they just quit making them.

One other thing a few years ago I saw where a lawyer was suing a theater because the movie didn't start at the stated starting time. That was in Florida USA land of the sue the bas 'scheesy.gif

I'm also a very frequent movie goer and I must say that the commercials are frankly too many. I wish the frequency is maintained at 30 minutes so I can be there just before the actual movie starts, but the commercial display is not maintained and that throws me off every time. Much like originator of this chat, I enjoy the movie clips, but now I'm unable to so do. The other issue if anyone has exprienced the same problem is that the volume level for most of the commercial are very high and mind you I have slight hearing problem. I also noticed a lack of maintenance in insuring that the movies once started are in focus, I have made complaints to the staff and manager and have only received an "I'm sorry" only to find out that the same problem persist,mmmmmmmm.... In short, commercial are not the only problem...

Not been to the flicks in ages but I do remember the actual start time for the movies was never the same because various adverts trailers are not the same. 9 o'clock start could be 9:23 or 9:27. Person selling the tickets will have the actual start time for business reasons. If some chap comes in at 9:15 and asks if the film has started they can sell a ticket because it hasn't but if they just say yes at 9:00 then good chance he will not buy one.

I find the cinema too cold and too loud so they can keep their popcorn and gallon cups of soda. I'll watch it at home with my feet up over a couple of beers and smoked salmon on crusty French bread.

it always takes at least 15 minutes for commercials, and if the movie is a blockbuster comes to half an hour. last week i went to see IRON MAN3, at central rama 9. it took 28 min exactly

The cinema's in Thailand are fantastic and dirt cheap compared to western countries.

So I would not worry about a few adds, after all it's like that everywhere now.

I been to the cinema so many times in BKK, many of them, and never found the adds unusually long.

israel also has ads and promos for about 20 minutes and thai country bumpkin hubby was fuming by the time the movie started; as it is, we skipped the lines cause we bought tickets over internet, and skipped the popcorn cause of the amazingly long and non american style lines (i.e. shoving, pushing, shouting, elbowing, knocking in to poeple) and iw as afraid the someone would knock in to me and there would be a row between hubby and nasty types...

mostly watch on cable anyhow but did go to see django or whatever its callled in englsih, worth seeing on a very large screen with good sound .... hubby is used to movies ala issaan style.

FF6 or whatever is worth seeing? thinking of it for him (we only do action. if i want any other movies its girlie time only he wont go).action doesnt need dubbing in any language although have gotten good at seeing rambo type movies in dubbed thai. hilarious.

How times change, In your younger years your family probably sat around the wireless listening to radio dramas.

And the only thing at the cinema was the news.

Take away the adds you lose the movie.
