Phuket driver has lucky escape after plunging into hole

PHUKET: -- A woman driver had a remarkable escape this morning (May 31) when she managed to drive her automatic Toyota Vios out of the Esso petrol station on the bypass road south of Tesco – and straight into a large hole at the side of the road.

The car landed upside-down in the five-metre-deep hole but the driver, though badly shaken, was pulled out unhurt.

A witness said, “I heard the staff of the petrol station yelling ‘A car’s fallen into the hole!’ So I ran down into the hole. Another car stopped and its driver also came down to help.

“I opened the driver’s door and helped her out of the car and up out of the hole. She was wearing her safety belt. She is safe but she is in shock at the moment.”

The owner of the car declined to comment or give her name. A large crane was soon brought in to retrieve the car, which was in considerably worse condition than the driver.

and straight into a large hole at the side of the road.

Looks to me like she drove off the road and down a slope. Nothing to do with a 'hole'. Usual fantastic reporting.

Bit of a different story in the PG ...

PHUKET: A woman was run off the road by speeding drivers as she pulled out of the Esso gasoline station on the northbound lane of the bypass road this morning.

Frightened by the oncoming traffic, the woman missed her brake pedal and accidentally hit the accelerator, propelling her car over the curb, across a patch of grass and down into the canal below, Paisan Nakbumrung of the Thung Thong Police told the Phuket Gazette.

Whatever took place - the car does not look too bad & she was pretty lucky. That might be her checking out the car in couple of the pictures.....

Did she even notice though?

I bet she was still in there when the medical team arrived, upside down, posting a pic of her in the car on her facebook page none the wiser.

Maybe if EVERYONE who can NOT drive, stays at home from tomorrow onwards....

Streets will be so empty, nobody arrives at work, no more horrible accidents and more nice thoughts jump into mind smile.png

Of course, this will not happen as all/most Thai consider themselves as excellent drivers.... and let's not forget the 'face factor' tongue.png

Just another stupid woman who can not drive, what's new?!? coffee1.gif

Just an inexperienced driver panicking. Southern Phuket is not the ideal place for somebody who has little driving experience to be behind the wheel all alone.

that crane jib looks awfully close to the power lines, or is it just the camera angle?blink.png

It's the angle. The part next to the power pole shows the real height.

Underground parking in Holeattachicon.gifR8jr9_Hf motor bike.htm

That m/bike driver must have been drunk. He hit a minibus, then a car, then another m/bike, then straight on into the front of a truck, and drove into the sewer all in just over a minute. Wonder if he survived the fall .... but it was very funny.

What amazed me was he had no intention of talking or checking if there was any damage to the other vehicles he just wanted to get on his journey.
