Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra told Sri Lanka's parliament on Friday that democratic countries should join forces in protecting people's rights and freedom.

I know a nice place for her to practice and implement her proposal: LOS!

I think she probably meant that the Columbo government dealt with the insurgency in the north of the country in such an efficient and yet totally democratic way, that Thailand could learn to do the same thing in the southern insurgency in Thailand , and also be hailed as a paragon of democracy by the world. After all there was very little criticism of the methods used, was there? And now Sri Lanka is such a peaceful and tidy place.

The major exports of Sri Lanka now are Garments, Tea, Rubber and also Human labour. So yingluck what will Thailand buy from Sri Lanka?

Ironic that yingluck makes this speech in a country that has absolutely no respect for the human rights of the Tamils who are still being disappeared, having their land stolen and kept in prison camps, a govt that has a religiously bigoted approach to Hindus, Muslims and Christians. A govt that is as repressive as any in the region and tolerates no dissent.

Agree 100%.

With the addition of a family run government (Rajapraksa) to make Yingluck right at home.

Freedom... YAY !!!

Does this mean westerners finally get rights... land... work opportunities... residency... no more visa runs/visits to the imm. office (much like prisoners on parole)... The right to voice opinion... the right to vote... the right to a fair trial in court against a Thai ....

WOW.. I am so happy that HUMAN RIGHTS IS ON THE AGENDA...

May be you can name a country where foreigners ie non citizens can vote? or can stay without a visa?

English people can visit Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and vice versa, without a visa!clap2.gif

No she was only referring to Thai citizens. Western rights might take a few more centuries, but of course the Thais are always welcome to come to most Western countries where they can exercise their rights more freely like work opportunities, residency with no bank balance requirements, no visa runs, land in their name, right to vote, right to criticize the current leader and any other person of power in the free and suppressed world, right to a fair trial even against farlang, safe highways etc., etc.

Peter Falk, Guy Fawke, she won't know the difference.

Ironically, Thailand claims a distinct lack of skilled labour, yet there is absolutely zero mention of attracting expats/farangs to Thailand.

The only mention is minimum wage labour. No mention of changing or modifying investment laws. Not even on the table as to how to keep Thailand moving forward.

Depends what you mean by skilled labour....the expats/farangs they need are already here for the most part and to bring this back into line with the "human rights" topic "thhMan" was on about...most of these expats would be ina position to apply for PR anyway if they chose to do so

How are they doing with the 7 year backlog of pr petitions?

Look they won't even find a way to grant any type of residency to the overseas students who graduate here, or kids from international schools who finish here.

They are neglecting a huge amount if Thai fluent people who are more than ready to work here.
