Presumably at higher prices than in the U.S.? Not sure that - higher prices - ameliorates paulsh's issues? ;)

They may have subsidiaries able to handle distribution and localization (which is a broad term meaning more than language)

Unless you go to a Staples/Best Buy in a sales tax-free state, no one can buy an N7 for $199. wink.png

If you order from the Play Store you'd have to pay ~ $15 shipping plus any applicable sales tax, 6.25% in my case, putting the total closer to $230. I do go up to NH (Salem or Nashua) if I have to buy more than one unit, like iPads, as the savings can add up, a detour to The Clam Box in Ipswich is usually required. tongue.png Can't wait to get back next month. laugh.png

Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie Release Date: Why Is Google Glass Delaying Update For Android OS And 2nd Gen Nexus 7?

So far, I don't think there has been much news about the Nexus 7 new version from the Computex show in Taipei.

I need something soon, of course.

But I guess it might be good to wait till the dust settles in Taipei.

Normally there are new CPUs and new products available there this time of year.

129USD?

Great price if it is a better product!

Asus launches Memo Pad HD7, a Nexus 7 with a rear camera for $129

By Tom Warren on June 3, 2013 03:26 am

Asus is unveiling its latest 7-inch Android tablet today. The Memo Pad HD7 is almost identical to the Nexus 7, but it comes complete with a 5-megapixel rear camera. Asus is also launching it in a variety of colors, with a Quad-core A7 CPU and 7-inch 1280 x 800 HD IPS display. Like the Nexus 7, it includes a 1.2-megapixel forward-facing camera capable of recoding at 720p.

A 16GB version will be available for $149, while an 8GB version will launch in emerging markets for just $129. The HD7...

I don't think this Cnet June 6 article was cited here but this offering from Asus seems to be something many would want at the right price of USD129, for the 8GB configuration.

Any Android device that is not nexus-branded should be avoided because of the update discontinuation about a month after purchase by the manufacturer. If you're looking for an Android device, make sure it's a nexus, nothing else, otherwise it's a scam (no software update, no future support).

It's funny to see that other companies don't have this issue (e.g. you can get any "Windows" computer from any manufacturer and it will always have access to the regular Windows updates).

Been following this thread for a while as I've had my eyes on the Nexus7 and all it's power, speed and bells and whistles but I have come to the conclusion that the ultimate Nexus [in LOS] is yet to come, but won't be here for a while.

I'm coming from a 2year old Samsung cooper/ace and the phone memory is terribly lacking, not to mention the tiny screen size for my old eyes......so, my game plan is to go with a locally available cheapo basic I mobile I note 9 inch android tablet [ http://www.siamphone.com/en/i-mobile/i-note_wi-fi_9.htm ] @ 4,500thb and plan on using it for a year and then think about shopping for a 9 or10 inch Nexus or whatever is the best and cheapest at the time. Meanwhile, for calls, I'll just stick with my trusty ole Nokia.

One thing that is getting cheaper, faster and smaller is electronics and I gotta tell myself to just be patient.

Another consideration for a larger screen is that my fingers are just too fat to use a small screen keyboard.

I too am looking for something which will fulfill more basic requirements, but the screen resolution will be important for reading, and also maybe a newer OS version than I think may be installed on this tablet. I think I will wait for about another 2 weeks to see what becomes available soon after the Taipei show, and then just buy something that is USD200 or less. Also a better resolution for the camera will be nice. Speaking of tired old eyes though, the best screen resolution I can find will be a factor, and I think the new Nexus will have a better screen.

Not sure they need an "event" to streamline an updated version of an existing product? They need to factor in availability - no need for another GNEX4 snafu - vs. existing stock of the earlier version in the various sales channels. Maybe dropping the price of the latter to $149, while introducing the 7+ (not sure what to call it) at $199?

Many/most expect Android 4.3 and the SGS4/Nexus on June 26, so it seems like the N7+ should pop sometime between that date and maybe mid-July?

OCH,

If you're looking for a cheap machine to use while you're waiting [like me] until the dust settles on the Nexus7 in Thailand, then there is this other Imobile model that has great specs for the price [thb4,990] http://www.siamphone.com/en/i-mobile/i-note_wifi_3.htm .

I admit that the resolution on the Imobile9 is quite low, but yesterday I brought a memory stick over to my neighbor and tested some different movie formats on it and found the display to be decent on such a small screen, but the comfortable viewing angle was limited to just being directly in front of the screen. Is that because of the low resolution?? I would snap the newer wifi3 up in a minute if it had a larger screen.......gotta be 8 inch or more for my eyes and fingers.
