3bb modem -to- desktop computer (works perfect)

linksys wrt320n -to- desktop computer (works perfect)

3bb modem -to- linksys wrt320n -to- desktop computer (does not work)

I've resetted (holding 30 secs on reset button) the Linksys wrt320n, afterwards disconnected it's power for 30 secs, rebooted both the Linksys wrt320n as well as the 3BB modem and started both in several orders.

I think maybe something is wrong within my Linksys wrt320n settings. Here is a screenshot:

post-108675-0-84492400-1371135619_thumb.

Please can anyone help me? Because I would love to use my wireless devices as well on my 3BB connection.
Yes, the Username and Password are correct and I believe PPPoE is the correct one according to poorly written manuals, although to know 100% sure I would need the help of another techie with a 3BB connection smile.png

Thanks for any help!

H.

PS. All devices are wireless with the exception of my desktop computer which is connected with an network cable.
PSS. Yes firmware is also up-to-date!

The screenshot of the Linksys looks correct but you don't say how you have setup the 3bb ADSL modem. Have you done the following?

1 - Connected a cable between the Linksys WAN port and one of the 3bb modem's LAN ports.

2 - Set the IP address of the 3bb to a different subnet than the Linksys. Since the Linksys is 192.168.1.1 then 192.168.2.1 would be ok for the 3bb.

3 - Put the 3bb into "Bridge Mode"

4 - Power both devices down then up again.

done (although 3bb modem has only 1 port, type = Huawei Smart AX MT880)

2 - Set the IP address of the 3bb to a different subnet than the Linksys. Since the Linksys is 192.168.1.1 then 192.168.2.1 would be ok for the 3bb.

done

3 - Put the 3bb into "Bridge Mode"

done, but i cant seem to fill in my internet details (username/password) as it previously used the same method simply Routing mode instead of Bridge, but tried without success just in case

4 - Power both devices down then up again.

done

nothing did the trick.

now i resetted everything back in the 3bb menu to routing mode again...

I seriously don't understand, the linksys always worked on 192.168.1.1 and the 3bb modem on routing mode using the user and pass as provided. God, this is gonna take me ages again sad.png

Thanks by the way for your kind suggestions though..

I'm not sure what you mean on point 3 above where you say:

"done, but i cant seem to fill in my internet details (username/password) as it previously used the same method simply Routing mode instead of Bridge, but tried without success just in case"

Because in bridge mode there is no username/password to enter on the Huawei. That is handled by the Linksys. The only things that needs configuring on the Huawei are: Bridge mode, VPI=0, VCI=33. Everything else just leave as default.

I found a screenshot of how your Huawei should look after setting bridge mode, here:

post-50983-0-26223800-1371170132_thumb.g

To be sure all is in order, I would do the following

1 - Do a hard reset on the Huawei so it is back to factory.

2 - Connect the Huawei to your PC and change the LAN address to 192.168.2.1. Save & reboot.

3 - Reconnect to the Huawei and set Bridge Mode, VPI, VCI. Save & reboot.

4 - Confirm that the Huawei has an ADSL sync by watching for the ADSL light to go solid.

5 - Unplug LAN cable from your PC and move to the WAN port on the Linksys.

6 - Connect another LAN cable from your PC to a Linksys LAN port.

7 - Reboot the Linksys and ensure that the WAN setup is the same as your original screenshot.

At this stage the Linksys should get an IP address from 3bb almost instantly. Then you are done with Internet setup and go on to WiFi, security etc.

Note that once all is working it doesn't matter which order you boot up the devices. It's only during setup/diagnosis that you need to worry about that.

I have a somewhat similar situation but with Linksys E3000 router. The key thing is to connect the cable from the WAN (3BB) to one of the four LAN ports. The Linksys CD instructions are very clear and explicit. Also note the listing by Dork just above this (my) comment.

Ok Dork, I tried everything you mentioned... and without luck.

I kept changing settings and so on, and now it suddenly work.

Now I dont know how I did it, but wifi is working from my linksys

while the 3bbmodem is not in bridge mode... strange, but im glad it works now.

Im sure your help and others were somewhat helpful as you probably mentioned

something which I might have forgot myself.

As long as everything is working and you're happy with the performance that's good.

It is worth noting though, that if the Huawei is in Router mode (as opposed to Bridge) then this setup is doing what is called "Double NAT". That means that both devices are working as routers and there are 2 firewalls. It isn't an optimal setup and you could have issues with opening ports for various applications in the future.

Hey Dork,

Yes double NAT indeed, double firewall, everything, so I opened up everything (all ports) on both modem as well as router.

After a half day disconnections started... And resulting in not working anymore.

I prefer to have a all-in-one device which works for any ISP ie. 3bb, tot, cat, true, etc.

Do you happen to know whether 3bb offers modems with not only 1 or 2 LAN ports but also WLAN?

This would be ideal for me!!

If not, which modem-router-combi device should I be looking at which can replace the leased 3bb modem as well.

I don't mind brand names but the more popular the better because of many (custom) firmware updates and possibly up to 4 LAN ports. Budget max 5000 baht.

The ultimate all in 1 solution for the demanding farang :)

Sorry, don't know whether 3bb would give you a free WiFi modem. Perhaps another poster with 3bb experience could answer that.

For an all in one ADSL/Router/WiFi device, I would recommend ASUS e.g. this one:

http://www.invadeit.co.th/product/adsl-networking/asus/dsl-n55u-dual-band-wireless-n600-gigabit-adsl-modem-router-p009872/

There have been quite a few posts here at TV regarding ASUS DSL units and all have been positive.

You mentioned "custom" firmware. If you are referring to DD-WRT or Tomato you should note that these custom firmwares can't be used on all-in-one DSL Routers because they don't have ADSL support.

If you are happy with the Internet performance of your Huawei and your main objective is simply to add WiFi then an easy solution is to setup the 3bb Huawei as the main router and then put the Linksys in "Air Point Only" mode. That will avoid double NAT.

To put the Linksys into AP mode, do the following;

1 - If the Huawei IP address is 192.168.1.1 then set the Linksys to 192.168.1.2

2 - WAN Connection Type set to "Disabled"

3 - DHCP Server set to "Disable"

4 - Connect the patch cable from the Huawei to any one of the LAN port on the Linksys NOT the WAN port

That's it. No double NAT or Firewall issues. Now you can connect any client devices to the 3 remaining LAN ports on the Linksys and/or WiFi.

The WRT320N doesn't have an ADSL modem built in so can't work on it's own.

Thanks Dork for being so kind and helpful, I will order that one and it does look very nice as well.

Really appreciate it! It does not mention whether this is the annex A or B, but my guess is A

since ISDN is not really used in Thailand as far as I know, so it must be the Annex A version which is for ADSL :-)

That's correct.

As soon as the new ASUS device arrives I won't be needing the WRT320N anymore.

It is however still a great router and in my believe Linksys/Cisco delivers the best affordable routers on the market,

which is why I use the same brand over and over again for over 10 years :-)

Can't seem to think about what to do with it. I mean it would be useless now....

Perhaps sell it for 2,000 from farang to farang? LOL! Or whatever the price should be :)
