I have just found out that if you have a car that runs on LPG, the system needs to be checked at a LPG specialist every five years before your'e car can be taxed and insured. Does anyone know anything about this?

Hadn't heard about it but not surprised, it's really over due, most propane tanks in western countries have to be visually inspected inside and out regularly and are actually retired after 5 years for a barbecue as an example. The tanks are constantly being expanded and contracted and exposed to potential corrosives that can compromise the tanks with rust as well as the possible damage to gas lines etc..

The term LP "specialist" is a bit of a concern though, I guess you're going to have to have the car shipped to Europe or somewhere for that to happen, that might be a bit costly for an older car ..

Correct. Was your car modified to run LPG? If so you should have a round paper disk on your windshield confirming certification by the Transport Office after the installation, as well as an updated insurance policy.

I think it has always been the case that after a car is 7 years old it has to have a mechanical inspection. If the car is LPG you need an inspection and a "certificate" of inspection from an authorized, licensed engineer. My salesman took his car to a university somewhere. A lab assistant looked at the car and after the fee had been paid came back with said document signed by Professor "X"

My car had LPG installed after purchase and requires certification to be renewed every five years by the Transport Office. I assume 7 years would apply to standard factory produced LPG powered vehicles.
