Using Win 7. When I click on my internet symbol on the Task Bar, it show about 10 WiFi locations in the area... only one is mine. So I go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center. then Control Panel\Network and Internet\Manage Wireless Networks... and remove all the WiFi locations that are not relevant. However, when I restart my computer, all the unwanted locations are listed again.
Is there any way to make my removals permanent?

no, because ach time you reboot, it shows all connection options that are broadcasting.

if it didn't you would not be able to see new location that you may actually want to use, say at a coffee shop or new workplace

Fair enough but you would think that you would be able to lock in or make your own location #1.

You can lock in. You can't change the order in which all visible networks are shown, it's always strongest network on top,

Go to Network and sharing center and Manage wireless networks.

Firstly you can set for each network to connect automatically or not. Do so by right clicking on the WiFi network and choose "properties" and the mark the appropriate setting (Connect automatically when this network is in range).

Additionally yo can reorder the networks, so right click on your home network and choose "move up". Repeat until your home network is on top.

Now, whenever at home, it should automatically connect to your home network, even if other, stronger networks are around.

Once you are connected your network should be listed on top in the wifi stations list in your taskbar, followed bay the other available networks sorted by strength.
