Thailand's anti-graft agency finds irregularities in govt-to-govt rice contract

Featured Replies

And when the whole can of worms splits open and the actual losses come to light the taxpayers will realise they've been shafted and PT will dust off their hands and say "Not me" and start a witch hunt that leads nowhere... End of story... Billions lost buying votes, instead of developing the country.

Would not surprise me if they tried to blame it all on Abhist. They already have a list of their own crimes they are trying to pin on him.

In the other paper, cp is suing the TV guy for defaming the reputation of Thai rice.

A grain commented", all I ever wished for was to be eaten, but now these idiots have ruined my chances".

Shocking! I heard that the rice scam was a huge success, i have to stop listening to Pheu Thai.

The scam was a huge success.

The perpetrators of the scheme managed to successfully scam billions of baht's.

they have the water management money in their pockets the rice scam money in their pockets and are working on a 2.2 Trillion Baht scam scheme for infrastructure.

The title of the OP is delivered as if there is an element of surprise in the statement

Thailand's anti-graft agency finds irregularities in govt-to-govt rice contract

Is it really so much of a surprise or is it as we have been saying on TV for 18 months - stating the bleeding obvious?

Hahahaha! A dodgy cheque for rice! The crime kingpins of LOS must be wetting their pants now that the swashbuckling anti-graft hit men are in town....

The fact that an entire independent agency dedicated to rooting out corruption in a country where it is literally everywhere can only come up with one possibly dodgy cheque for 80k is irrefutable proof that they are a hopeless toothless tiger.

More "graft" than that passes under the table at meetings and payoffs in Thailand every 5 minutes and that's not accounting for the players who are so large they don't even conceal it.

Thailand, hub of meh...

When is this house of cards going to collapse ? w00t.gif

Sadly, 90% of the Thais have no idea about, that "their" government is robbing them blind !

With the help of a certain monk!!!!!!!!!!

Elsewhere it has been reported that the Govt says it has recently signed a deal to sell 5 million tons of rice to China and wants to speed up delivery.

Could that be what the 80,000 B was for, a 20% deposit?

The also say they have scrapped a rice deal with the Ivory Coast because of a change of Govt there.

Would seem more likely the Ivory Coast scrapped any deal because of the 20% rotten rice they were sold last time.

The best bit about that lie is that I don't think there has been a change of government since the rotten rice was discovered and this deal scrapped. Local elections, yes, but national, no.

More corruption found proving exactly what Supa Piyajitti uncovered....when will the PM apologise for having Supa investigated....my bet is...never.

What a coincidence. It is reported that Thaksin will be in Beijing this weekend.

You are right Bluespunk there has been no change of Government in the Ivory Coast only local body elections, there will be no general election till 2015.

So if that bit of the statement was a lie what are the chances that the 5 million ton sale to China is also a lie?

It gets more and more difficult to believe anything this mob says when they come out with a statement that only takes a simple push of a button to disprove.

Ummm, perhaps the other 1,459 cheques might prove useful as well.

Correct. And now that it seems that they have the army on their side we can expect more arrogance from this mob.

Me thinks the whole of the rice pledge scheme stinks of something and the main players are sh!!!ing themselves because they've been found out , with cover ups galore by professionals, this will keep everyone entertained for sometime to come bah.gif

Those people don't care. They are just after positive sound bytes that can be printed.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul is pushing to sell 1 million tonnes to Indonesia under the memorandum of understanding signed in 2011.

After the meeting with Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, Surapong said that it is yet to finalise the type of rice, quantity and prices that would be sold to Indonesia.

I see the above in todays news.

So it seems that 2 years after a MOU was signed that there has as yet been no agreement on what sort of, or quality of rice is to be sold or what price will be paid or indeed if Indonesia will buy any at all.

This would then appear to mean that the MOU's we see the GOVT announcing are just some sort of " We might buy some of your rice some time in the future " thing and bear no relationship to a solid order.

How do we know who are the corrupt proffiteires of the Rice Pledging sceme? Corruption in the Thai rice market has been endemic for many years. That perhaps is why so many of the rice wharhousing agents have been cut out of the loop by the nationisation of there wharehouses. No doubt some of those agents, who now run their operation, from within government ownership, are still corrupt. It is also most likely that the farmers themselves have corrupted the systematic purchasing of rice at the farm gate.

Usually endemic corrution is attacked by the corrupt themselve in and attemt to direct the questions away from there own mill or wharehouse. On accassion some may be operating a 'fith column of properganda on publication services just like Thai Visa with it thousands of members standing by ready to stuff anyone down the toilet just for laughs with their peers.

The fact is no one knows if the rice pledging sceme is corrupt of knot, since all that went before it certainly were, it is this that suggest there is continuing corrupttion of that market. If it turns out that it is the 'Government' , which is highly unlightly, they should be removed and put in prison.

We foreigners do not understand the Thai. After twenty years I continue to be astonished at the ability for the system to sustain corruption from as low as the Pui Yai and the Moobaan Torbor all the way up to the highest Hi So in the land. When crimes against the people are also committed by the people to ensure that they get a cut of what their rulers reep from the production of the poor you can say, with confidence, that systemic corruption is truly endemic accross all of the systems in the land.
