A buddy's first 90 day is due on the 30th, this coming Thursday. If we go across the border the afternoon of the 30th, that's okay, right?

What's the before and after timeframe for a 90 day report, or border cross?

Thanks.

Do the report before you are going, you have 14 days before to do your report.

I bet if he doesn't do his 90 days he will get questions about it on a later date.

I thought border crossing restarted the 90 day clock? Why would there be questions?

Because he was in the country for 90 days, and he didn't do his report. You know how immigration can be.

So you're saying, go out on or before the 89th day ....?

I think it would be better if you leave before (and not on) the 90 day report due date.

Unless you will staying out of the country for a few days why not just do the 90 day report at immigration instead of spending the time and money for a border crossing.

I hope he has a re-entry permit.

He'd rather spend a week or two in Malaysia. He'll buy a reentry permit at the immigration office at the border.

Correct re-entry permits are only available at airports on departure or at the immigration office where the extension of stay was done. There is absolutely no chance of getting one at a border crossing.

Sorry, guess no one told the immigration officials in Krabi, where I recently did both my 90 day and got a reentry permit, though it is not the office where I did my extension. And, they were quite pleasant and efficient to boot.

As for my buddy, he got his retirement extension in Trad, and yesterday bought the reentry stamp at Hat Yai.

Either you guys are perpetuating an old wive's tale I've seen many times on TV, or perhaps some offices are less cooperative and helpful than others. The latter would not surprise me in the least.

Perhaps I should have said "immigration office near the border," as opposed to "at the border."
