Fiberglass Body Replica Cars legality's and Problems

Just wondering what are the regulations or laws in regards to Fiberglass Body kits to resemble nice cars?

Say, if i was to take vios and put a Fiberglass Body of a Ferrari, while it would be registered as vios, is it a problem?

If not put Ferrari badge or Ferrari name, is it illegal?

Not to resell or send anywhere, but personal use of driving around.

Yeah, even though it's not the best fit at least it has rear engine and rear wheel drive like an Mr2 for example.. Bitch to find one though and not going to be cheap..

I have read on this forum of a Porsche speedster body on Subaru chassis.... I've no idea how they'd accomplished that...

But...... (Don't ask for the link, I've looked and can't find it, but there is topic which involves a funny argument between two chappys and a 356 mould) p.

Westfield (or an importer) had ideas here, but..... It's gone quiet.

^ I believe it is a Scooby engine on a VW chassis under a Porsche body is the preferred package.

Yeah it was quite a soap opera regarding someone copying or procuring? Someone else's body but not to the same quality etc. etc...

There is a company in pattaya producing countach, beach buggy and other copies on beetle chassis, I would love to know the legality of this - they look fun.

To be legal from a technical standpoint (registration, green book etc) you'd need a proper donor car and engine with all paperwork.

Obviously there are not many suited donor cars, most modern cars are unibodies, where basically the majority of the car contributes to the structural strength. Not too many modern cars around where the chassis can be separated from the body.

Then there is the issue of intellectual property. Making a picture perfect copy of a late model Lamborghini and labelling the car as such might not be welcomed by the real Lambo designers...

I was just thinking of putting the body kit, not so much matching the engine sound or noise, nor the speed, so the donor car engine would be all ok.

It does not need to be identical or be a specific model, just a general question.

Also i was thinking NOT to badge it and not to put the label, ie Ferrari or whatever else.

More like a fun looking car to ride.

In Thailand, the choice of sporty looking cars is very limited and available range in insanely expansive, so o i doubt i would be able to afford one in the near future, however i can spoil myself on weekend at least pretending to enjoy to drive

The legality issues i see, is if stopped by the police, and papers say(example: toyota vios) but it looks like(example Ferrari) i am afraid police may be be able to understand its a body kit.

Also with insurance, they want pics of a car, so unsure how that would work

Mostly only a problem with a current model offering not a retired model.. But also why VW beetle chassis are the premium choice and the Boxster body is a good match for fit and finish combined with a modern Scooby boxer engine..

No window vipers due to the very low windshield and not possible to ad a soft roof but as mentioned looks very cool but hopeless impractical.

It was parked at used car dealer ship opposite BKK/Pattaya hospital for a long time (passed every weekday after picking my son up from school) but now it's gone but I have spotted it a couple of times, ah I just found a pix now, well maybe not so cool but not too bad either, don't know the specs.

They have a website but I know I cannot post the link here, but I am sure a quick google search will find them, either that or add two hyphens and a dot com to their company name and you should get there. They are the company I referred to in an earlier post. The car in the picture costs THB 1 million, they have one with a roof for 1.2

Been to the website, but Christ almighty, a 19 MB big home page, which needs to be fully loaded before you see anything? That takes about 2 full minutes to load for people on a slower 3G connection (when they get 1 Mbps actual transfer).

It's a pity the AC Cobra replicars are a rarity here. They are still visually appealing after all these years and would perform well with a Lexus 4,7L under the hood.

Funny thing is even replica's cost double here. Checked out some prices, and an ok replicas go for $14 000, while in Thailand it would cost over $30 000.

Saw a Lambo replica $40 000 in US,absolutely immaculate inside out, air, gps, leather seats, i mean everything top notch, i think same would cost much more here.

There is a foreigner on Soi Khao Noi who builds replica porsche speedsters, close to pefection.

In the same building as the Universe Gym on Sukhumvit is also a garage owned by a foreigner who builds kit cars. A few years back he was building a replica ferrari 308.

The red car in the picture looks crap to me.
