Hi Guys,

A good freind of mine needs to know if his pension that is remitted here is as good as "cash in the bank" when it comes to renewing his Visa.

He receives over 400,000B a year so fulfills the Visa requirements as he is married to a Thai National.

He has been keeping 400,000 baht in the bank just in case but wants to invest this money on a new house he is having built.

Would any of you happen to know what documentation he would need to produce to be able to do this (if indeed he can!)

Many thanks in advance

Basically yes he can use the fact that his pension is enough to satisfy the 400,000 baht requirement provided that he gets a letter from his Embassy confirming it. What he has to do is get his pension company to write to him about 3 or 4 weeks before his visa is due for renewal stating the amount of his pension on a monthly and yearly amount (gross if possible and take that letter to the embassy.

They will write a confirmation letter (UK Embassy 1,900 baht thank you very much) and they don't actually check anyway and he takes that to Immigration as proof.

However he does need to keep some money in the bank as the Baht is high at the moment and the pension may not cover the required amount. When I went last year it was either 400,000 in the bank, 40,000 a month or a combination as it has on each ocaission I have been, the clinching figure being the exchange rate which Immigration uses and that rate I do not know.
