Looking to buy Klong Yao (Thai traditional drum)

Featured Replies

Hi. Heading home to USA in a few days, want to take a gift to my nephew. He's a drummer. Does anyone know where in Bangkok to buy a Klong Yao, a traditional Thai drum? Any advice welcome. I'm in Ekamai if that makes any difference, but willing to travel around the city to get one. Sample image attached. Thanks.

FYI for anyone looking for one of these traditional Klong Yao (or Klong Yaw) Thai drums, I found one today in the area Wong Nakhon Kasem near Chinatown. There are a couple of big music stores around there but most sell western instruments. There was one store selling lower quality Thai drums (about 850 baht), not quite toys but not beautiful either (the storefront is full of brass woks). Another store about one block from there, called Yong Seng Watana, sells imports (from USA of all places) - brand name Remo - list THB 10,000 but was marked down to 5,800 baht. This is a high quality hand made instrument, and stands about 70cm tall.

I don't know where you might find a fancy one like in your picture but there are places in Chatuchak market that sell all kinds of traditional Thai instruments.
