Are these Waiting Times for a New Car, Contrived by Dealers.?. Rangers ,Swifts are stacked up by me,one week later nothings moved, they are outside Main Dealers for all to see.. A Created Shortage for backhanders i wonder.IMHO most likely has an opinion..

There's 3 reasons that contribute to it:

1) All manufacturers have implemented a quota system, to stop some larger/well cashed dealerships from starving smaller ones of stock - so there's only so many of each model a single dealership can order each month.

2) Most dealerships don't carry floor stock, because it costs money to hold vehicles in-stock in either floorplan finance, or just lost interest. Many couldn't anyway due to #1

3) Due to #1, production lines for domestic models are finely tuned to avoid overproduction - but in turn it takes time to fulfil orders when demand outstrips production forecasts.

Also, in some cases (Suzuki and Ford for example), they simply don't have the actual production capacity needed to fulfil order volumes (Ford has it on paper, but not in reality).

Ive noticed that Thais, seem to get a New Swift in a week, yet Freddy Ferang gets told stupid times so they give up.coffee1.gif

Always makes me wonder........ when I go to Makro there is a Ford Showroom near always loads of new Rangers in front, yet have only ever seen 1 on the road around here, now the BT 50 Pro, loads on the roads, Showroom never seen more than 2 in stock, often only the Demo model there...

So wonder is it Ford ? is it the slow Dealership ? or are they just not selling ?

2 different Thai friends booked the Ranger, but would not wait so long, one has the Mazda BT 50 Pro 4 dr Auto the other a 4 dr Auto Colorado both received there new trucks within the week. NOT months + waiting 2 months with nothing and no firm delivery date cancelled there Ford order ..

I can understand with the Swift, Suzuki a slow seller here, new Swift = nice car and cheap, demand was high, far higher then expected.

It was the Flock of Swifts that prompted my Post.Takes ages to get one, i told my Wife as we drove past a big dealership yesterday.. Rubbish, I can get one of those by Friday. She's done her own deals for 25 Years,so i didn't comment. There were about 15 outside that haven't had a PDI, all covered in Bird Droppings. Makes You Wonder.

Last weekend Central Khon Kaen had a Ford display/seller.

Was told that there is no waiting time for the Ranger, they have in stock.

No waiting times on Toyota Hilux either... In fact they're now being discounted heavily. Suspect they're in runout mode and the new model isn't far away...

If that's the case, that also means the Ranger is probably gearing up for a minor change as well.

As I understand it - waiting time depends on the model. With swifts there was a delay with the gearbox manufacturer - if you want a manual it's immediate, a CVT takes a little longer. Having said that, Suzuki in phuket had two auto swifts in stock for sale.

Plus of course there was a surge in orders for the tax rebate but that should be sorted now.

For the Ranger it's a similar story - as I understand it, want a 3.2 and wait approx 1 year. Want a 2.2 and most dealers have some stock, but maybe not the color or exact model you want. Shop around to find a dealer with the one you want maybe?

I don't see any "thai v foreigner" conspiracy here. Just normal supply and demand.

Nope- the Swift's problem is that Suzuki only have an annual production capacity of 40K units. Nissan (Jatco) don't have any problems supplying them with CVT's. The production capacity will be fixed in a couple of months when their new plant opens.

That's good to hear - Suzuki phuket dealer assured us the delay was with the CVT gearbox manufacturer back in January, and explained that's why he could supply manuals immediately from stock but no CVTs. Very pleased to hear its not that and all is well again. In the end we bought a pickup but I still like the look of the swift as a runaround for the Mrs. Might be tempted at some point :-)

See what you like,i speak from what i see here. The Rich Thai by me got his Ranger in a flash, yet a nearby ferang still waits. Now the Thai thinks its rubbish.cheesy.gif

Haha hilarious! He should find the foreigner who is waiting and sell it on to him :-)

I looked at a 3.2 wild track recently, was quoted 10-12 months by one dealer, and another guaranteed delivery before the end of December, which was interesting.

No rush as the current pickup still going strong, but might be nice to have a new one next year, especially if they update the face to closer to the new Everest :-)
