Blood pressure monitor - where to buy?

Recommended Posts

For post-stroke victim BP testing, a new or 2nd hand unit is sought. I seem to recall seeing one advertised but search did not reveal anything.

Where to purchase a cheap but reliable unit? [NB: We can buy new... but seek cheaper options 1st]

Also, cheap wheelchair ... may be 2nd hand/old ... doesn't matter too much as will be used in the baan and get knocked around. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

How about those medical supply places on Suthep Rd., on the left hand side, as you go up the hill, before Nimanhimen. Watson's or Boots? Possibly even TESCO. The rubber ball will wear out, so you may want to avoid used.

The mid range one above for B1,900 looks ok to me .I would not buy the very cheapest one as it will probably be worse than useless .

I bought one from Boots and have it several years .I think it was around B3000 .

There is this mail order outfit in the States that sells some great heaters, air purifiers, fans, even high rech mosquito traps. They have the latest and best BP monitors. Might be a good site to price and see what if out there. www.kaz.com.

I was about to say that I have seen them for sale at Dr. Morgan's office when I noticed the website above is actually Dr. Morgan's website. I'm sure it is a good one. She definitely would not sell a bad product.

Thanks to all Members for responses so far. We shall contact Dr Morgan and go from there. Ease of use and reliability is paramount for 'village use'.

Buy one that fits on the upper arm rather than the wrist. They're more accurate. Don't buy one that needs you to pump it up with a bulb. They're just hassle.

I second that .I remember buying a wrist one years ago and it gave widely different readings each time .

And I 3rd it. My cardiologist specifically said not to use those due to inaccuracies and inconsistencies. I bought an Omron BP monitor at one of the drug stores at BigC on Hang Dong road for around 1600 Baht.

I bought a monitor on Ebay from China for about $25. Works perfectly and the cuff is big enough for a fairly large arm.

Tip of the day. After 2 years mine seems to be out of order. Eventually, it was not, I just had to buy a spare part => the arm stuff and its plastic pipe.

Sent from my Nexus 4 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

Go to Airport Plaza and the lowest floor. Walk to the Bangkok Bank as a reference starting point. Then walk back on the left side. Soon you will see a small pharmacy on the left. They sell the same Omron unit as pictured above for 990 baht. They even fill out the warranty card for you and keep their portion to send to the manufacturer.

The nice part about having one at home is you can sit quietly for ten minutes before testing and get a truer picture of what the pressure is. That means no TV or conversations. Also it will allow you to see how much of a difference those things make.

When I was in Canada they had the do it your self ones in all the drug stores. Many of them had a chart showing the difference in Blood pressure during the various times of the day. This chart was of course just drawn from a average measurement on many different people. But with your own machine you can make your own chart.

All the best to the recovering stroke victim.

Thank you for that tip. The Mrs has cancelled a 1600 Bt ' half price special' sad.png via a friend after I started getting feedback here. The Omron @ 990 Bt is ideal.

The only two places in the world that I was told my BP was "normal" was 1) when I got a physical to be a school bus driver in America and 2) when I go to donate blood at the Thai Red Cross. It is nice to check it at home, and there is a lot of truth to the White Coat Syndrome.

In my GP surgery my resting BP is 180/105. At home after I've sat quietly for 10 minutes is 130/85.

Run of the mill places like Boots and Watsons usually sell these device, around 4000 THB..

You are guaranteed to get one in a shop at a private hospital.

It is a good indication for those that suffer white coat anxiety! where blood pressure is artificially inflated.

I have a unit from BUPA (they sent it to me free) it works on the wrist and I believe it to be pretty accurate.

The manual of mine says, if watching porn when checking bloodpressure the readings on the display may be misleading.

You're supposed to keep your arm still while you're taking readings...
