Tourism Thailand Remains a Top Choice for Russian Holidaymakers
Nor did I call it that, just posed a question. What rich kids fight in any wars? They just get deferments or posted to the National Guard l, or a medical exemption (didn't some American have bone spurs?). The ones who do 'serve' do so far from enemy lines. The fact that men with resources are being drafted might indicate that Russia is more egalitarian than Western nations. There's a price to pay for saying 'no' to some government mandates, but at least that person can look at themself in the mirror and know that they stayed true to their own beliefs. -

Home visit
I am really angry at them. Both me and my wife were nearly collapsing after 5 hours in the office. We called them before to ask what they required as their website just directs to the general immigration website and they gave us a list. Then when we arrived they said they needed a witness to be in the office which was not what they requested earlier. We had a driver to take us to immigration as there is no other transport there and I bribed him 1000 baht to be the witness. Then when they found he could not come to our house for the video interview we had to find another witness. The next day we organized our staff member to come and rang them before she left and asked if my wife and I had to come with her and they said no. I had to pay another 1000 baht for her to travel to the office. Then today they changed their mind and decided all 3 of us have to go to the office again tomorrow. Another 1000 baht for a driver. Apart from the ridiculous scene in my bedroom I think it is relevant that they are making up dumb rules as they go. I know it has happened in the past but there is no point censoring that it is getting worse and worse. -

What Books Are You Reading ? (2025)
The Fold, Peter Clines. The Fold by Peter Clines follows Mike Erikson, a high-IQ teacher recruited to investigate a secretive DARPA project in San Diego. The project, led by scientist Arthur Cross, involves a device called the Albuquerque Door, which uses advanced physics to "fold" space, enabling instant travel across distances. Mike, with his photographic memory, uncovers inconsistencies in the project’s data and the team’s behavior. As he digs deeper, strange events unfold—memory lapses, personality shifts, and hints of a cover-up. The team’s experiments have unintended consequences, threatening reality itself with cosmic horrors inspired by Lovecraftian themes. The plot escalates when a test goes wrong, trapping a researcher and forcing Mike to unravel the Door’s true nature. He discovers the device doesn’t just bend space but connects to alternate realities, risking catastrophic consequences. Racing against time, Mike and the team confront the dangers of their creation, blending hard science fiction with thriller elements. Reviews praise the fast-paced narrative, likable characters, and mix of quantum physics with existential dread, though some note the dense scientific explanations can slow the story.
